The Senior Director of Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) Licensing is a strategic leadership role responsible for developing, managing, and executing licensing programs that maximize brand value and drive revenue growth within the CPG sector. This executive will oversee a team and all aspects of licensing partnerships, including contract negotiation, portfolio management, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Strategy & Leadership: Develop and implement the overall CPG licensing strategy, identifying new opportunities for brand extension, revenue generation, and market penetration. Lead the licensing team and foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.
- Business Development: Source, evaluate, and secure new licensing partners across diverse CPG categories (e.g., food & beverage). Build and maintain strong relationships with licensees, retailers, and other stakeholders. Leverage Pipedrive (CRM) to track and manage all opportunities.
- Contract Negotiation & Management: Oversee the negotiation and execution of licensing agreements, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with legal, financial, and brand standards. Monitor contract performance and resolve any issues that arise.
- Portfolio Management: Manage the licensed product portfolio, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines and strategic objectives. Analyze product performance, market trends, and competitive landscape to inform decision-making.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, culinary, legal, finance, and sales teams to ensure successful product launches, promotional campaigns, and ongoing program optimization.
- Financial Oversight: Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial targets for the CPG licensing division. Monitor royalty streams and licensing revenue, identifying opportunities to improve profitability.
- Brand Stewardship: Safeguard brand equity by ensuring licensees uphold quality standards, comply with brand guidelines, and deliver products that enhance the brand’s reputation in the marketplace.
- Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging opportunities in the CPG licensing landscape. Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10 years of progressive experience in licensing, brand management, or business development, with significant exposure to CPG.
- Demonstrated success in structuring and negotiating complex licensing agreements.
- Demonstrated success in new business development.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Deep understanding of CPG industry dynamics, consumer behavior, and market trends.
- Proficient in financial modeling, budgeting, and performance analysis.
- Detail-oriented, with strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience working with major CPG brands or multinational corporations.
- Expertise in intellectual property, trademark, and contract law as it pertains to licensing.
- Ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments and influence at all levels.
- Adaptability to fast-paced, evolving business environments.
- May be required to travel up to 25% of the time
