We are looking for motivated and energetic coffee enthusiasts. Baristas must prepare and serve various types of specialty coffee drinks and tea. Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drinks and coffee, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders. To be successful in this role, you should have excellent customer service and communication skills. You should be able to work various shifts. Responsibilities
- Greet customers as they enter and exit the cafe
- Give customers drink menus and answer their questions
- Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Prepare and serve beverages following recipes
- Prepare and serve basic food items like toasts, burritos, overnight oats, etc.
- Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries and muffins
- Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
- Keep the bar area clean as you go
- Make syrups, cold brew, chai
- Prepare food items, i.e. cut bread, shred vegetables, overnight oats, etc.
- Maintain stock
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items including drinks and food
Skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Previous work experience as a Barista a plus
- Hands-on experience with brewing equipment a plus
- Knowledge of sanitation regulations
- Flexibility to work various shifts
- Ability to clean and clean bathrooms
- Basic math skills
- Ability to gauge customers’ preferences
- Food handling certificate a plus
- High school diploma; relevant training is a plus
