Position Summary
The Stockroom Attendant is responsible for accurately selecting, storing, issuing, and staging materials, including pump components, finished goods, semi-finished items, and related inventory necessary to support production. This position plays a critical role in maintaining inventory accuracy and ensuring timely, efficient material flow throughout the facility.
The Stockroom Attendant must operate a variety of material-handling equipment—including forklifts, powered industrial trucks (PIT), and other powered material handling equipment—in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178 and company procedures. Because PIT operation is a safety-critical responsibility, operators must maintain high awareness, follow all safety rules, and complete required certification and inspections. The Stockroom Attendant must be able to perform the job duties of an Assembler I.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
1. Inventory Selection, Stocking, and Material Distribution
- Utilize ERP and ShopTrak systems to determine stock locations and record inventory movements.
- Verify part numbers, lot numbers, and quantities prior to selection.
- Pull production orders; select bill-of-material components or required stock items and place them on skids, containers, or carts for delivery to workstations.
- Package, label, and stage selected items for internal use or shipment.
- Identify, tag, and report damaged or incorrect materials.
- Maintain organization of racks, shelves, bins, and storage areas to ensure safe and efficient workflow.
- Assist with shipping preparations and maintain supplies of cartons, skids, and packaging materials.
2. Material Handling and Powered Industrial Truck Operation
- The Stockroom Attendant must safely operate forklifts and related PIT equipment to transport, load, unload, and position materials throughout the facility.
- Safely operate gasoline, LPG, or battery-powered forklifts and other powered material handling equipment in accordance with OSHA regulations and company procedures.
- Maintain constant awareness of surroundings, pedestrian activity, blind corners, and changing floor conditions.
- Transport raw materials, subassemblies, containers, WIP, finished goods, and supplies to designated locations.
- Load, unload, stack, and position materials using proper safety techniques to avoid product damage, tipping hazards, or unsafe load conditions.
- Retrieve, pull, and stage materials required for production orders.
- Deliver stocked items to Quality, Tooling, Production, Machining, or other departments as required.
- Assist in consolidating stock locations and reorganizing material racks to support inventory accuracy and workflow.
- Follow all forklift traffic rules, speed limits, right-of-way protocols, and horn-use requirements.
- Maintain visibility when transporting loads; use spotters when necessary.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
3. Documentation, Recordkeeping, and System Transactions
- Use ERP, CRT terminals, scanners, and other software systems to check inventory locations, adjust quantities, verify stock accuracy, and complete material movement transactions.
- Record time and material movements accurately on electronic and paper forms.
- Support inventory control efforts by maintaining accurate and timely data entry.
- Complete reports and documentation as required.
4. Equipment Care and Routine Maintenance
- Perform daily PIT equipment inspections.
- Immediately report mechanical or safety issues; remove unsafe equipment from service.
5. Safety, Quality, and Work Practices
- Follow all OSHA regulations for PIT operation and all company safety procedures.
- Wear required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toe footwear.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Assist others courteously and professionally; maintain positive communication with coworkers and supervision.
- Participate in PIT training, recertification, and safety audits as required.
- Meet quality standards, accuracy expectations, and required deadlines.
6. Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks.
- Support special projects and continuous improvement activities.
- Attend meetings and communicate with supervision regarding issues or concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift (PIT) certification required.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required.
- Additional related training preferred.
Experience Required
- At least one year of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment preferred.
- Experience with assembly or material-handling tasks beneficial.
- Experience operating forklifts or powered pallet jacks preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to safely operate forklifts and powered industrial equipment in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows-based software programs and ERP systems.
- Understanding of material flow, production procedures, and stockroom organization.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Mobility and Movement
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to climb in and out of forklifts and maneuver through aisles, racks, and confined spaces.
Lifting & Material Handling
- Regularly lift 10–40 lbs; occasionally up to 60 lbs or more using assistance or mechanical aids.
- Ability to stabilize and secure materials manually and with PIT equipment.
Dexterity & Equipment Operation
- Frequent use of hands for scanning, data entry, and PIT controls.
- Requires strong hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and reaction time for safe forklift operation.
Vision & Hearing
- Must meet OSHA visual standards for PIT operation, including depth perception, peripheral vision, and distance vision.
- Must hear and respond to alarms, verbal instructions, and PIT warning signals.
Cognitive & Safety Awareness
- Ability to maintain alertness, awareness, and safe decision-making under changing conditions.
- Must operate PIT equipment only when free from impairment (fatigue, medication, etc.).
Environmental Conditions
- Exposure to dust, fumes, noise, temperature variations, oils, and moving machinery.
