Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our growing team and help provide exceptional legal representation, compassion, and support to clients across Louisiana.
What You Will Do
- Maintain regular and professional communication with clients throughout the life of their case.
- Gather and review intake information and relevant documentation for new files.
- Enter and maintain accurate case information within case management software.
- Initiate insurance claims, verify coverage, and communicate with insurance adjusters regarding case status.
- Prepare correspondence and case-related documents, including letters of representation, demand letters, billing inquiries, and other legal correspondence.
- Request, collect, and organize documentation related to client damages, including medical records, medical bills, and lost wage documentation.
- Maintain and regularly update case details, notes, deadlines, and documentation within case management software.
- Meet with attorneys, clients, and other professionals regarding assigned cases and projects.
- Assist with drafting legal documents, including routine pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, and interrogatories.
- File pleadings and other legal documents in accordance with applicable court procedures.
- Prepare, organize, maintain, and retrieve electronic and physical case files.
- Assist attorneys with litigation and trial preparation, including preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
- Maintain attorney calendars, deadlines, court dates, and other important case-related events.
- Perform additional case management and administrative duties as assigned.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal required.
- Paralegal certification is a plus.
- Knowledge of federal court processes, procedures, and terminology.
- Experience drafting discovery is preferred.
- Experience managing calendars, deadlines, and schedules for an attorney or supervisor.
- Ability to effectively manage a high-volume caseload while remaining organized and detail-oriented.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with legal case management software and technology is preferred.
