Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated law student to join our Tax Resolution team as a Law Clerk. This is a substantive, hands-on law clerkship where you will work directly with highly experienced litigation attorneys on active IRS audit defense and tax litigation matters. You will conduct legal research, draft pleadings and other advocacy documents, and develop a real fluency in federal tax procedure .
Responsibilities
- Research and analyze federal tax law, IRS administrative procedures, and Tax Court rules and precedent
- Draft legal memoranda, IRS protest letters, penalty abatement requests, and litigation support documents
- Assist with case preparation for IRS examinations, Appeals hearings, and litigation
- Review and analyze IRS notices, transcripts, and correspondence
Qualifications
Required:
- Current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school, 2L standing or above
- Completion of at least one law school tax course (Federal Income Tax or equivalent)
Preferred:
- Participation in a law school tax clinic
- Mock trial or moot court experience
- Strong legal research and writing skills; comfort with Westlaw or Lexis
- Interest in federal tax controversy, IRS procedure, or tax litigation as a practice area
