IT Systems/Low Voltage Specialist
The Systems/Low Voltage Specialist is responsible for managing and maintaining technology systems and infrastructure. The Systems/ Low Voltage Specialist collaborates with staff, students, and IT teams to ensure the smooth operation, security, and availability of the technology infrastructure. The role will involve installing and configuring hardware and software, providing technical support to end-users, managing various systems, troubleshooting system issues, and implementing security measures. The Systems/Low Voltage Specialist maintains low voltage and information technology equipment in operating condition; meeting the equipment needs of the district; documenting information and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, operating systems, and software applications.
- Manage and maintain technology systems, including, but not limited to: Phone Servers, Print Servers, Content Filter, Mobile Device Manager (MDM), Ticketing, Inventory, Intercoms, Learning Management System (Technical), Student SSO Platform, Security Platforms (Alarms, Cameras, Access Control, Crisis Management)
- Assess malfunctions in a wide variety of low-voltage equipment (e.g. alarms, intercoms, clocks, I.P. phones, cabling, scoreboards, projectors, televisions) for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain equipment in proper working order.
- Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure optimal system availability and performance.
- Repairs low voltage equipment, computers, peripherals requiring specialized electronics repair skills for the purpose of maintaining assigned district equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
- Implement and enforce security measures to protect sensitive data, systems, and resources within the educational institution.
- Create and maintain system documentation, including system configurations, inventory records, work orders, and user guides.
- Assist in the planning and execution of technology projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments.
- Procure equipment, supplies and materials as needed for the purpose of maintaining availability of required items and completing jobs efficiently.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers to ensure timely resolution of system-related issues and coordinate system maintenance activities.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to provide innovative and efficient solutions.
- Transports a variety of items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site or transporting equipment for repair.
- Trains school/site personnel for the purpose of ensuring their ability to use new and or existing equipment.
Other Functions
- Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Qualifications
Skills:
- Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks, with the need to periodically upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions.
- Operating and managing technology systems; adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge:
- Review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
- Computer hardware and software configurations; MDM management; LMS technical support; Inventory/Ticketing management; server management (Print, Phone, Access Control, Security Cameras, etc.)
- Experience in low voltage maintenance and repair; and safety practices and procedures.
Ability
- Schedule, activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude; communicating technical information to non-technical audiences; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; adapting to changing work priorities; and developing effective working relationships.
RESPONSIBILITY
- Responsibilities include working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; managing resources; and monitoring budget expenditures.
- Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job functions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, balancing, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
