Position Summary:     

The Director of Operations for the Community Counseling Center on the Charlotte campus of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary includes overseeing the operations of the center, establishing and maintaining relationships with community referral sources, providing clinical supervision to student interns, and overseeing the center’s support staff. This position will be hired initially as Director of Operations with the expectation to transition to Administrative Faculty in Fall 2026. Administrative Faculty teach two courses per year and participate in regular faculty activities but are not required to maintain a research agenda. 


Key Responsibilities:

•    Oversees all aspects of the Community Counseling Center, including daily operations, budget, staff and student interns, and marketing. 

•    Oversees the daily operations of the counseling center, including maintaining a counseling center operations handbook and observing HIPAA compliance.

•    Oversees student interns, including interviewing and hiring, providing weekly supervision, and completing all clinical training forms as required by the MACC program.

•    Oversees center’s support staff, including work schedules, professional development plans, and annual reviews.

•    Collaborates with the seminary’s marketing department to oversee the updating of marketing materials, social media platforms, and the counseling center’s website.

•    Initiates and maintains relationships with referral sources, especially area churches and community agencies. Coordinates participation in relevant events to promote services and establish new partnerships.

•    Consults with the Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling to develop an annual budget for the Community Counseling Center. Monitors monthly budget reports detailing income and expenditures. Tracks weekly client referrals and weekly revenue.

•    Participates in counseling department meetings.

•    Participates in faculty activities commensurate with an administrative faculty position, including monthly faculty meetings. 

•    Teaches two counseling courses per year, which may be drawn from core, elective, or supervision classes.

•    Other duties as assigned.

•    Management Skills: Ability to oversee and track interns’ and support staff’s responsibility

•    Customer Service: Strong customer service skills with the ability to demonstrate respect, empathy, active listening, and flexibility with students, coworkers, and constituents.

•    Communication and Interpersonal Effectiveness: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must maintain confidentiality as appropriate. 

•    Cultural Intelligence: Commitment to collegiality, diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and serve in a team environment that requires collegiality and regular collaboration across matrixed, multi-campus environment.

•    Technical Knowledge: Competency with Microsoft Office, prioritizing Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and TEAMS.  Ability to use web conferencing software (e.g., Zoom and TEAMS) required. Competency and proven training in the clinical use of techonology for service delivery (i.e.: clinical supervision, telehealth sessions, electronic health records).

•    Reporting and Monitoring: Ability to use software to generate reports and track student clinical hours (e.g. Time2Track).

•    Clear understanding of the mission of the Seminary and willingness to abide by the Community Life Statement of GCTS. 


Education and Experience

•    Master’s degree in the field of Counseling or related field required. 

•    Must have robust clinical experience, including training and experience in clinical supervision, including the use of technology for service delivery.

•    Licensed as an LCMHC in NC. Ability to obtain NC clinical supervision license (LCMHC-QS or LCMHCS) prior to September 1, 2026.

•    2 years of experience in business management 

•    2 years of experience in leadership and supervision of a team
