This role blends deep, hands-on retail merchant expertise with a clear responsibility to harness artificial intelligence and advanced technology to capture, codify, and scale merchant judgment across the organization. The individual will partner closely with deal teams and clients to drive complex retail transactions, while simultaneously applying AI-enabled tools, data, and insights to transform experiential merchant knowledge into a structured, repeatable, and continuously improving retail intelligence platform. Through this work, the role will help elevate decision-making, accelerate execution, and strengthen the firm’s differentiated retail capabilities at scale. Key Responsibilities Retail Platform Enablement Use technology and AI to enhance Gordon Brother’s Retail capabilities, scale merchant expertise across the organization, and improve execution Translate merchant intuition into data-informed inputs that enhance pricing, inventory allocation, and channel strategy Ensure frameworks remain practical, judgment-driven, and grounded in execution Deal Execution & Value Creation Act as a lead across retail engagements, responsible for shaping and driving execution strategies that directly impact deal outcomes Translate inventory insights into clear, actionable execution plans that maximize recovery, margin, and sell-through Apply real-time commercial judgment during live events, dynamically adjusting pricing, markdown cadence, and channel strategy Support field teams to ensure disciplined, high-quality execution across locations Retail Strategy & Commercial Insight Lead on-site and analytical assessments of inventory, store conditions, and market positioning Evaluate inventory quality, liquidity, and channel options, shaping assortment and pricing recommendations Provide perspective on consumer behavior, competitive dynamics, and demand signals to inform execution decisions Identify incremental value opportunities, including augmentation inventory and alternative monetization channels Leverage industry relationships to source inventory and structure favorable commercial terms Translate merchant intuition into data-informed inputs that enhance pricing, inventory allocation, and channel strategy Qualifications 10 years of retail merchandising experience with direct ownership of inventory, pricing, and channel strategy, informed by data-driven and technology-enabled decision making Demonstrated experience leveraging AI, advanced analytics, or machine-learning–driven tools to improve forecasting, pricing, inventory optimization, or channel outcomes in complex retail environments Proven track record leading the adoption and scaling of retail technology platforms, including AI-enabled tools, decision frameworks, or intelligence systems, across organizations or regions Strong understanding of retail economics, inventory behavior, and liquidation dynamics, with the ability to translate real-world merchant judgment into structured, model-supported insights Ability to pair analytical and AI-informed insights with practical, in-market execution and merchant intuition Proven ability to drive commercial outcomes in fast-paced, high-stakes deal environments where speed, accuracy, and judgment are critical Experience influencing senior stakeholders and clients by clearly articulating the value of AI-enabled insights alongside traditional merchant expertise Comfort operating at the intersection of retail execution, data, and technology—serving as a bridge between deal teams, technologists, and leadership Existing industry relationships with vendors, suppliers, and channel partners strongly preferred Willingness to travel frequently and operate on-site in dynamic, time-sensitive deal environment Gordon Brothers offers a very competitive total compensation package, including base salary and bonus plan, health insurance, dental benefits, a generous 401(k) match, time off benefits, and more.
