Description:

The Shipping Manager ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Shipping Manager will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

The general purpose of the Shipping Manager is, under the direction of the Operations Manager, to coordinate and manage the workload for the shipping department and is responsible to ensure the department handles and packages products in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Ensure work environment is safe for all employees.
  • Ensure process ls controlled and is providing a quality packaged product that meets customer expectations.
  • Ensure process is meeting departmental production and efficiency goals.
  • Complete semi-annual reviews for departmental employees.
  • Mentor departmental supervisors as necessary.
  • Ensure departmental employees are adequately trained and are competent in the position or positions they perform.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing freight requirements.
  • Coordinate shipment routes and communicate with internal production departments
  • Create and implement shipping policies and procedures to improve and control the shipping and transportation processes
  • Manage and control shipping production
  • Manage and oversee transportation process, drivers, and schedules
  • Comply with shipping industry regulations

  • Performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Federal, State, and local standards and regulations.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding safety and standards of workplace behavior, in completing job duties and assignments

Supervisory Responsibilities

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements:

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A) in Logistics or related field; or High School degree or GED, with five years’ experience managing a shipping department; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to speak Spanish is a bonus!

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands

Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee if regularly required to use hands handle and feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee will occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to working near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather).

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection is required on the production floor.

Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
