The State & Sales Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting and executing the company’s multi-entity and multi-state sales and use tax and broader state and local tax (SALT) compliance obligations. This role manages sales/use tax return preparation and filings, exemption certificate administration, state registrations, estimated payments and annual state filings (as applicable), and supports audits and controversy matters. The analyst will also contribute to process improvement, tax technology enablement, and risk mitigation efforts including Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs) and nexus monitoring.

Job Description:
The State & Sales Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting and executing the company’s multi-entity and multi-state sales and use tax and broader state and local tax (SALT) compliance obligations. This role manages sales/use tax return preparation and filings, exemption certificate administration, state registrations, estimated payments and annual state filings (as applicable), and supports audits and controversy matters. The analyst will also contribute to process improvement, tax technology enablement, and risk mitigation efforts including Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs) and nexus monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and file periodic sales and use tax returns across multiple states and local jurisdictions, ensuring accurate taxability, timely remittance and payment.
- Prepare and post all related journal entries in ERP system
- Reconcile sales/use tax accounts in ERP system, investigate variances and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain compliance calendars and documentation to support internal controls and audit readiness.
- Manage the end-to-end exemption certificate lifecycle (collection, validation, renewal, storage, and retrieval).
- Prepare and/or support state annual filings and informational requirements as applicable (e.g., annual reports, business registrations, gross receipts-related filings where relevant).
- Assist with state estimated tax payment processes and tracking.
- Serve as a primary contact for state and local tax audit requests related to sales/use and assigned state tax matters.
- Provide guidance on sales/use tax treatment for transactions.
- Support and, where assigned, lead VDA efforts: gathering data, quantifying exposure, coordinating with advisors, preparing schedules, and supporting submissions and settlement documentation.
- Support enhancements to tax determination, reporting, and compliance processes (ERP mappings, tax codes, product taxability matrices, exemption logic).
- Document procedures and ensure adherence to internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, data quality, and standardization across multi-entity filings.
- Assist with special projects as needed
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines, with a high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with O365 suite of products including Excel and Word.
- Strong interpersonal and team skills.
- Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Infor) and/or tax engines (e.g., Vertex, Avalara) is a plus.
