About The Role
Are you a climate policy wonk with a knack for turning complex ideas into easy-to-understand messaging? If so, this might be the job for you

The Climate Campaigner will advance Sierra Club BC's climate campaign goals by combining policy expertise with exceptional communication skills and public engagement strategies. They will help identify the key drivers of B.C. climate policy and craft strategies and actions to mobilize public support, influence decision-makers, and accelerate the transition to a just, low-carbon economy. This includes translating complex climate issues into clear, compelling messages, building coalitions, and leveraging digital tools and social media to educate, inspire, and drive meaningful action across communities. The Climate Campaigner reports to the Campaigns Director and works closely with the campaigns, organizing and communications teams.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in science, policy, environmental studies, or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of experience in climate policy, advocacy, or environmental organizing.
  • Comfortable doing media interviews both on and off camera.
  • Ability to engage, maintain and build relationships with diverse stakeholders, including experience in government relations and working with First Nations partners.
  • Experience working in intercultural contexts and applying principles of reconciliation, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Direct experience working with Indigenous knowledges and communities is an asset.

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of climate science and policy in B.C. and nationally.
  • Exceptional ability to simplify complex climate issues for diverse audiences.
  • Advanced writing and presentation skills for both technical and public-facing content including media releases and key messaging.
  • Provide compelling media interviews on climate issues.
  • Proficiency with digital tools and platforms, including social media content creation.
  • Experience in social media strategies to raise awareness and drive engagement.
  • Ability to motivate public action through clear calls to action and compelling narratives.
  • Collaborative team player with sound judgment and ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze B.C.'s climate policies, legislation, and progress toward goals.
  • Develop and advocate for policy solutions that reduce climate pollution and accelerate clean energy adoption. Produce policy briefs, reports, and public-facing materials, including blogs, videos, and infographics.
  • Translate technical policy and climate science into accessible, engaging content for the public.
  • Contribute to social media campaigns and digital content to educate and mobilize communities.
  • Represent Sierra Club BC in media interviews, webinars, and public events as a trusted spokesperson.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to advance renewable energy and oppose new fossil fuel developments.
  • Track and report on policy initiatives and communicate impact.
  • Support and participate in public events, webinars, conferences, rallies, and other strategic campaign activities.

Compensation

  • This is a five days per week (37.5 hours) position, with a starting pay rate of $65,000-$78,000.
  • Four weeks of paid vacation; additional week of paid time off during holiday office closure.
