Position Summary: The Campus Security Officer is responsible for helping to ensure a safe and secure environment for visitors and employees and Goodwill’s Main Campus in Tacoma (MWOC).
Hourly Rate: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Campus Security Officer responsibilities include the following and other duties as assigned:
- Greet and screen students/participants and visitors upon entry to the building
- Effectively communicate directions and expectations of visitor conduct
- Address emergencies and follow appropriate course of action
- Incorporates an anti-racist, equity, diversity, and inclusion lens to work practice
- Respond to calls for assistance
- Respond to telephone inquiries
- Maintenance of routine records
- Perform other duties of comparable level/type as assigned
- Learn, interpret and enforce rules
- Observe and detect suspicious situations and behavior
- Take appropriate medical action including applying First Aid/CPR
Provide Customer Service
This position is the first point of contact for people entering the building, it is vital to be able to assist a very diverse population, in a professional, courteous manner.
Respond To and Investigate Incidents
Respond to reports of criminal activity and other goings around the building; conduct a thorough investigation and be able to write a report and distribute it throughout the building if necessary.
Assist In Case of Emergency
Be able to assist medical aide and/or police in case of emergencies on campus.
Qualifications:
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Must be at least 21 years old
- 2-year degree in police science preferred
- 2 years experience in police or campus security required; A combination of education and experience dealing with the public will suffice
- Proven de-escalation skills strongly preferred
- Exceptional analytical, judgment, decision-making and communications skills
- Must be able to work independently of supervision

Supervisory Responsibilities: None required for this position.
Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with employees, visitors and emergency personnel. Able to write reports using simple English but with sufficient detail to document events in an understandable way.
Mathematical Skills: Not required for this position.
Computer Skills: Knowledge and experience using common office suite applications with specific emphasis on word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications. Practical experience with photo and video editing applications preferred. Software based DVR/CCTV systems experience preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of a Campus Security Officer.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: First Aid/CPR certification required within the first 6 weeks of employment.
Other Qualifications: Self-motivated; resourceful, creative; high integrity; problem solver; looks to resolve issues; positive can-do approach; and ability to build effective working relationships.
Physical Demands: Must be able to walk or move around property on foot to conduct security checks. Must be able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time on hard and/or uneven surfaces.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
