Goodwill SWMI is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Our nearly 300 dedicated team members help achieve our mission of improving the community by providing employment, education, training and support services tailored to individual needs across a six county territory. Goodwill SWMI manages ten retail stores (with attached, attended donation centers and one stand-alone donation center), Contract Manufacturing Operations as well as Custodial & Janitorial business units. These business operations provide stability to our organization that is not always enjoyed by nonprofit organizations solely funded by outside sources.

Retail Production/Donation
General Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the team member in this position is to support the store in merchandising, production and accepting and sorting donations. Persons in this position support the retail goals of the store by performing their daily tasks and practicing the agency’s core values of Success, Collaboration, People and Positivity.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities And Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Previous work experience preferred but not required
Education
Physical Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
This is a physically demanding job requiring standing, bending, twisting, reaching and grasping six to eight hours per day. The job also includes frequent pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying objects weighing an average of 35 lbs. and occasional climbing.
Other
Must be able to work a variety of hours and days of the week consistently
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and theft-related criminal background check

Retail Production/Donation
General Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the team member in this position is to support the store in merchandising, production and accepting and sorting donations. Persons in this position support the retail goals of the store by performing their daily tasks and practicing the agency’s core values of Success, Collaboration, People and Positivity.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities And Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Greet donors in donation areas and assist in unloading vehicles while treating donated goods with care and place items in proper location.
- Examine donated goods to determine if they are sell-able.
- Meet or exceed daily goals
- Practice safe and effective work habits
- Merchandise items in the store to increase sells
- Assist with the unloading and loading of products
- Keep back room organized and clean
- Ensure all production and donor records are completed correctly
- Determining price and labeling each item using established categories
- Performing other tasks as requested by management
- Skilled in recognizing quality and value of items
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic, reading, and writing
- Ability to merchandise product in the store
- Ability to operate or be trained to operate forklift in a safe manner
- Ability to use pallet jack and move pallets
- Skilled in organizing and categorizing
- Ability to perform as a productive team member and self-motivated
