Accountability:

Assists in supporting the retail operation by providing specific oversight of a specialized department. The role provides leadership in assigned areas such as Wares (Books), Fitting Rooms, and Janitorial, and helps train and support Store Associates with disabilities so they can be successful. Assists with meeting program goals and outcomes, while also ensuring personal growth for program participants within the work environment.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

Retail & Sales Management

  • Understands any store function – sales, donation, textiles, and wares.
  • Merchandises store effectively through displays, timely features and end caps, and an overall appealing sales floor.
  • Acts as expert in assigned area of the store taking ownership for merchandising, production results, quality control, and overall operation of area.
  • Supports inventory process according to organizational guidelines.
  • Operates as manager on duty – taking all telephone calls, cover sales floor breaks, answering customer and employee questions, answer manager calls, replenishment of goods, opening and closing store.
  • Helps manage overall flow and inventory of donated goods, new goods, and seasonal goods.
  • Promotes exceptional internal and external customer service through effective communication.

Guiding and Empowering

  • Work with individuals with disabilities to coach and motivate to perform work successfully.
  • Teach job skills and help participants understand workplace expectations and meet daily goals (books/janitorial/fitting rooms).
  • Model good work habits and positive attitude. Demonstrate the expectations.
  • Create effective solutions and accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
  • Coach participants, including modeling work and motivation.
  • Prepare workstations for daily work activities.

Financial Results

  • Supports goals for financial results including sales growth and increased average sales.

People Management

  • Helps to establish and maintain an effective and respectful team in order to effectively achieve results.
  • Trains and provides day-to-day instruction to retail associates. Creates a positive working environment. Provides performance feedback to Store Manager.
  • Responsive and respectful towards others within the organization. Role models appropriate behavior (courteous and respectful interactions). Creates a positive and professional store culture.
  • Manage work assigned to participants and assist if needed.

Risk Management

  • Leads through keeping safety a priority including maintaining a safe and clean work environment, establishing a safety culture, and ensuring safety procedures are followed in all aspects of the business.
  • Understands and supports loss prevention practices.
  • Demonstrates regard for Goodwill’s assets including property and equipment.

Department Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Responsible for enforcing program guidelines and following policies.
  • Oversee daily operations in book pricing, janitorial and fitting rooms.
  • Support store goals, productions numbers, and help keep departments running smoothly.
  • Make sure the Book Nook stays full, fresh, organized, and rejected.
  • Step in and complete books, janitorial and fitting room duties when Store Associates call off.
  • Move Gaylords and ensure product is ready for Books and Media processing.
  • Big Joe certified for safely stacking and handling book Gaylords for the Missions team.
  • Ensure safe work areas and ensure Store Associates are safe.

Schedule & Expectations

  • Work every other weekend.
  • One evening shift per week (10:00am to 6:30pm).
  • Meet daily production goals.
  • Weekly meeting with Store Manager and District Lead.
  • Touch base with Store Manager at the end of each shift to go over any updates or concerns.
  • Merchandising of Book Nook.
  • Auditing all books/media/VHS gaylords/Salvage Books/Salvage Media Gaylords.
  • Ecom Books to Ecom followed up.
  • Books 1950 or earlier, packaged up, and sent to Ecom Ambassador.
  • Communication with Retail and Missions.

Other

  • Completes required reporting accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Understands and helps to maintain Kaizen principles.
  • Lives Goodwill’s values through saying thank you, having fun, respecting resources, valuing every voice and thinking first.

Sensory and Physical Requirements:

Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all functions of the job. Ability to stand, bend, lift, and reach for long periods of time. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Use of both hands. Good manual and finger dexterity. Ability to work in dusty conditions. Ability to inspect and eliminate non-saleable donations.

Environment:

This position is primarily based in a retail store environment and involves regular interaction with customers, team members, and merchandise on the sales floor. Duties may also include work in the warehouse areas, which can involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and the physical handling of goods. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, frequent bending and lifting, and the ability to safely move merchandise and materials. Flexibility to shift between customer-facing and warehouse responsibilities is essential. Weekend and evening work required.

Qualifications & Basic Job Requirements:

  • A combination of education and relevant work experience that aligns with the duties of this position.
  • Familiarity with retail concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to provide oversight to location and employees. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to make fast and accurate decisions in all aspects of daily operations.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with customers (internal and external).
  • Ability to set objectives and goals; break down work into process steps; measure performance against goals; evaluate results. Ability to effectively prioritize multiple issues/tasks.
  • Sense of urgency in addressing customer needs.
  • Demonstrates high ethical practices with exceptional decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Ability to follow all safety rules.
  • Must be proficient in computer skills including internet operations, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals with disabilities and understand and communicate with diverse groups.
  • Ability to motivate and assist individuals in performing work.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Certificates/Licensing:

  • Ability to maintain First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to maintain Office of Inspector General and Rule 50 training.
