Position Summary:

The Program Director for Skilled Trades Programs, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Education, provides academic leadership for the Skilled Trades programs at Helms College. This role is responsible for ensuring the quality of instruction and learning, achieving program learning outcomes, maintaining compliance, and fostering overall faculty and student success and satisfaction within the Skilled Trades programs.

Under the guidance of the Senior Vice President of Education and the Associate Vice President of Education the Program Director oversees operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective delivery of educational and training services. As the direct leader of faculty and students in the Skilled Trades programs, the Program Director is responsible for hiring, assigning, training, and supervising faculty members. This ensures that faculty embrace the organization’s core values, meet hiring requirements, and contribute to achieving the College’s strategic goals and objectives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Model Core Values: Demonstrate the core values of Goodwill Industries by modeling Service, Ownership, Accountability, and Respect (SOAR).
  • Program Oversight: Oversee all programs in the College of Skilled Trades.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring quality instruction, and an effective learning environment and strategy.
  • Curriculum Review and Revision: Chair the curriculum review committee for the college of skilled Trades. Evaluate existing educational program to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with current needs in the industry.
  • Faculty Management: Hire, train, onboard, and supervise faculty members to ensure excellent learning outcomes and program completion.
  • Teaching Load Assignment: Teach two courses per quarter/term and assign appropriate quarterly teaching loads to full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Budget Management: Manage the operational budget to meet or exceed cost-effectiveness measures.
  • Inventory Control: Responsible for inventory control and ordering of supplies for operational efficiency.
  • Compliance and Student-Centered Environment: Work with the campus leadership to foster a compliant, student-centered learning environment.
  • Faculty Meetings: Hold regular faculty meetings, maintain minutes, foster team spirit, provide training, and ensure adherence to academic policies and procedures.
  • Program Promotion: Working with Director of Admissions organize and carry out activities to promote skilled trades programs in local professional organizations, high schools, and the business community.
  • Job Development: Develop relationships with contractors, vendors, and donors. Collaborate with career services personnel to enhance job placement percentages that exceed accreditation standards.
  • Student Recruitment: Assist enrollment services in the recruitment and enrollment of students by attending open-house functions and other promotional activities.
  • Student Retention: Manage student retention by identifying “at risk” students and working with faculty and staff to facilitate student success.
  • Orientation Participation: Actively participate in new student orientation and continuously review and adjust the process as needed.
  • Accreditation and Meetings: Assist with accreditation visits, program curriculum meetings, and lead program advisory committee with assistance from AVP of Education.
  • Classroom Observations: Perform regular classroom observations, review student satisfaction surveys, and provide constructive feedback to instructors.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other work-related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates. Deviation from regular duties may be necessary to accomplish a task or work project in other areas.

Position Requirements:

  • Hold at minimum a certificate of completion from a CHEA approved institution. Associates degree preferred. Bachelor’s Degree highly desirable.
  • Currently Certified or Registered in scope of practice, current license if required.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in teaching at a postsecondary education institution, and experience in managing a skilled trades educational program is highly desirable.
  • OSHA and EPA certifications preferred.
