This position maintains a safe, inclusive learning environment and fulfills required faculty meetings, training, and assigned institutional activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Deliver the approved curriculum and follow the course syllabus, learning objectives, grading standards, academic calendar, and instructional schedule.
  • Prepare course materials, lesson plans, and learning activities independently and with other instructors. Obtain approval for changes to curriculum or course requirements.
  • Demonstrate current clinical skills and use instructional methods that support a diverse student population and connect course content to professional practice.
  • Be physically present and actively instructing or supervising students throughout assigned classroom, laboratory, and clinical periods. Follow approved absence and coverage procedures; do not cancel, shorten, or leave classes unsupervised without authorization.
  • Evaluate student performance using approved assessments and competency tools. Provide timely, constructive feedback and identify students who need additional support.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe teaching environment. Follow infection-control procedures, sharps safety, bloodborne-pathogen precautions, PPE requirements, equipment sanitation, and safe storage and disposal practices.
  • Check supplies and equipment before use, including expiration dates and condition. Remove unsafe items from use and promptly report shortages, damage, or safety concerns.
  • Consistently enforce institutional expectations for uniforms, professional appearance, food and beverages, laboratory conduct, and classroom behavior. Address and document violations and refer unresolved concerns to the appropriate administrator.
  • Be accessible to students through approved communication channels. Coordinate with Student Services and program leadership on attendance concerns, academic progress, retention, and referrals.
  • Use student and administrative feedback to improve instruction. Participate in assigned recruitment, retention, assessment, and other activities that support the mission of Helms College.

FACULTY ACCOUNTABILITY AND COMPLIANCE

  • Maintain Canvas or the designated LMS for every assigned course, including course materials, assignments, grades, and student feedback. Enter attendance in the required institutional system and meet all record-entry deadlines.
  • Certify student recorded attendance based on actual student presence and participation under institutional policy. Do not award attendance credit for missed instruction, excuse absences, authorize make-up attendance, or change attendance records except through approved policies and procedures.
  • Certify rosters and attendance accurately. Maintain supporting grade records, assessments, and competency documentation; submit progress reports, final grades, evaluations, and required paperwork by established deadlines.
  • Follow published academic and student guidelines, employee handbook, and catalog policies.
  • Implement formally approved student accommodation. Refer requests and concerns to the designated administrator; do not independently approve accommodations or waive essential course requirements.

Promptly escalate harassment, discrimination, Title IX or ADA concerns, student complaints, academic integrity issues, significant attendance problems, and suspected policy or compliance violations.
  • Attend required faculty meetings, in-service training, professional development, and assigned assessment or accreditation activities. Complete required training and follow-up actions by the designated deadlines.
  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with institutional, state, accrediting, certification, and applicable programmatic requirements. Provide documentation needed to demonstrate compliance and cooperate with audits, investigations, file reviews, and corrective actions.
  • Protect confidential student and institutional information, including records covered by FERPA. Maintain professional boundaries and use approved systems and communication channels for faculty–student interactions.
  • Maintain current licenses, certifications,  and other credentials required for assigned courses. Provide verification as requested and promptly report expiration, restriction, suspension, or other changes affecting eligibility to teach.
