Shipping & Fullfillment Associate — E-Commerce
Goodwill NYNJ | South Hackensack, NJ | Full-Time
About The Role
Every item sold on ShopGoodwill, eBay, and our growing marketplace channels has to arrive exactly as described — on time, intact, and packed in a way that protects both the item and our shipping costs. The Shipping Associate is the last set of hands on every order before it reaches a customer, and that responsibility matters.
This is a fast-paced, physical, warehouse-floor role. You'll be on your feet all day, moving with purpose through a production environment where pace and accuracy are equally non-negotiable. The right person knows how to pack a fragile piece of ceramic differently than a pair of jeans, understands that oversized boxes cost everyone money, and takes pride in getting every single shipment right the first time.
What You'll Do
Shipping & Fulfillment
This role is measured. The metrics that matter include handling time compliance, shipping cost per order, damage and return rates tied to fulfillment, and daily order throughput. You'll know exactly what's expected and how you're tracking.
Shipping is where the sale becomes the experience. A customer who wins a bid and receives their item quickly, safely, and exactly as described becomes a repeat buyer. A customer who gets a broken item in an oversized box filled with crumpled newspaper doesn't come back — and leaves a review that follows us. Your work on the floor directly protects our seller ratings, our revenue, and the mission those dollars fund.
Goodwill NYNJ is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.

What You'll Do
Shipping & Fulfillment
- Pick, verify, and pack sold orders accurately and efficiently across all active e-commerce platforms including ShopGoodwill, eBay, and additional marketplaces
- Process shipments using carrier platforms and shipping software — generating labels, selecting appropriate carrier and service level, and confirming tracking upload within platform-required timeframes
- Meet daily shipment targets and maintain pace consistent with platform handling time commitments and team production goals
- Organize and manage the outbound shipping area — staging packed orders, coordinating carrier pickups, and maintaining a clean, efficient workflow
- Verify order accuracy before sealing every package — correct item, correct buyer, correct address, no exceptions
- Select the right packaging material and box size for every item — minimizing dimensional weight charges without compromising protection
- Apply proper protective packaging techniques including appropriate use of bubble wrap, packing paper, foam, poly mailers, and void fill based on item fragility, size, and value
- Prevent dimensional weight overcharges by consistently right-sizing boxes and avoiding unnecessary filler that inflates package dimensions
- Follow carrier-specific packaging requirements that affect insurance eligibility and damage claims — particularly for fragile, high-value, or irregularly shaped items
- Reduce returns driven by shipping damage by treating every pack job as if the item is going to your best customer
- Flag packaging supply shortages proactively so the operation never runs short of critical materials
- Conduct a final condition check on every item before packing — if something doesn't match the listing, stop and escalate rather than ship and deal with a return
- Document and report any items found damaged, missing, or mismatched prior to fulfillment
- Support accurate inventory and order management by maintaining organized staging areas and communicating clearly with the production and CS teams about order status
- Identify and flag recurring packaging or carrier issues that result in damage claims or return requests so management can address root causes
- Work on your feet throughout the full shift in a warehouse-style production environment — standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting are constant parts of this role
- Lift and carry packages up to 50 lbs regularly and heavier items with team assistance
- Operate within a clean, organized, and safety-conscious workspace — maintaining your area throughout the shift, not just at the end
- Support the broader e-commerce production team during fulfillment surges and cross-train on adjacent production tasks as needed
- Prior shipping or fulfillment warehouse experience — e-commerce fulfillment specifically is a strong plus
- Working knowledge of carrier platforms and shipping tools — experience with Pirateship, ShipStation, Shippo, eBay shipping, USPS Click-N-Ship, or similar is preferred
- Understanding of dimensional weight pricing and how packaging decisions directly affect shipping costs
- Hands-on experience packaging fragile, irregularly shaped, or high-value items correctly — you know bubble wrap isn't a one-size-fits-all solution
- Familiarity with USPS, UPS, FedEx, and regional carrier options and when each makes sense for cost and timing
- Ability to work at a consistent, production-level pace without sacrificing accuracy — speed and precision together, not one at the expense of the other
- Strong attention to detail — the ability to catch the wrong item, wrong label, or wrong address before it becomes a customer problem
- Physically able to stand for the duration of a full shift, lift up to 50 lbs, and move actively throughout a warehouse environment all day
- Dependable, accountable, and a team player in a high-output production setting
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience shipping fragile or high-value items — glassware, ceramics, electronics, artwork, collectibles, or luxury goods
- Familiarity with ShopGoodwill, eBay, Poshmark, or other resale marketplace fulfillment workflows
- Knowledge of USPS Cubic pricing, Regional Rate boxes, or other cost-optimization strategies
- Experience managing carrier claims for damaged shipments
- Forklift certification or experience operating warehouse equipment
This role is measured. The metrics that matter include handling time compliance, shipping cost per order, damage and return rates tied to fulfillment, and daily order throughput. You'll know exactly what's expected and how you're tracking.
- Same-day or next-day shipment of all sold orders within platform handling time windows
- Packaging damage return rate at or near zero
- Shipping cost efficiency — right carrier, right box, right service level every time
- Order accuracy rate at 100% — wrong items shipped is never acceptable
