Mission Contribution:
To coordinate free income tax preparation services in for moderate to low income families.
Function:
To provide and coordinate free income tax preparation services by serving as a Site Coordinator and Tax Preparer at the Goodwill location in Ft. Walton Beach.
Essential Functions:
- Achieves Advanced and Site Coordinator certifications needed to prepare tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) and stays current and in compliance regarding tax policies/procedures and quality site requirements.
- Coordinates VITA services including setting the schedule based upon space and volunteer availability.
- Recruits, trains and manages volunteers for the VITA program.
- Prepares returns according to IRS standards and makes sure that each return is quality reviewed and transmitted within 24 hours of completion.
- Checks for and reviews rejected returns, making needed corrections and secures additional documents or information from the taxpayer if needed. Makes sure that taxpayers are notified if the refund or amount due is different and that new returns are printed, distributed and signed.
- Plans and implements tax preparation events in order to make free tax services available to more people including people who may be able to prepare their own return with assistance.
- Represents the agency at collaborative meetings, trainings and networking opportunities including those dealing with VITA, financial education or support services.
- Ensures confidentiality of participant records and private information, keeping in compliance with the organization’s guidelines, policies and IRS regulations.
- Acts as a positive role model for employees, participants, students, and trainees in all aspects of professional performance.
- Observes all safety procedures and personnel policies and ensures compliance by participants.
- Regular attendance, as outlined in Goodwill’s policy, is required.

Skills, knowledge and abilities: (these are required to enable job holder to perform the essential functions of the job).

- Must be able to achieve advanced certification as a volunteer tax preparer through the VITA program.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some Saturdays.
- Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Must have excellent coordination skills in order to effectively manage multiple projects and programs.
- Must have proficiency in computer software programs including all Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
- Must be able to keep information confidential.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills including a pleasant telephone voice.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule which could include occasional evenings and Saturdays.
- Ability to manage time and function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
- Must have a valid driver’s license for at least 3 years, liability automobile insurance and be insurable through the agency’s insurance carrier.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred although 5 years of closely related experience may substitute for the degree

- Previous experience in income tax preparation is required, preferably with a volunteer tax site
- Previous experience working with volunteers and site coordination preferred
