Job Description

SUPERVISES: n/a STATUS: Hourly, part-time

Mission Contribution:

Fulfills the agencys mission of providing jobs to people with barriers to employment. Also, helps fulfill agencys goal of promoting strong environmental stewardship.

Function:

Responsible for collecting, sorting, packaging, baling, and/or storing recyclable material including but not limited to paper, plastic, cardboard, scrap metal and electronic materials.

Essential Functions:

1. Ensures World Class Customer Service by greeting donors with a smile and in a friendly manner at donors vehicle within 10 seconds of their arrival.
2. Offers assistance with unloading recycling materials from the donors vehicle, and offers guidance in the pre-sort process.
3. Ensures a clean, safe, and clutter free center, inside and outside.
4. Keeps the donation area organized and hazard free, using authorized containers.
5. Maintains Goodwill standards for image including wearing a clean neat uniform and name badge.
6. Efficiently handles recyclable material according to established procedures.
   1. Puts material into the proper bins (plastics, metal, glass, paper, etc).
   2. Removes incompatible items from sort stream.
   3. Bales, crushes, densifies, or shreds material as instructed.
7. Ensures bales, barrels or pallets are properly and securely wrapped for transport.
8. Weighs material before its stored, and properly records weight in log.
9. Observes all safety procedures and reports any safety problems to supervisor immediately.
10. Opens and closes as needed.
11. Assists with other recycling projects as needed, including but not limited to electronic or textile recycling and community recycling events.
12. Upholds the mission, vision and values of the agency and adheres to standards for conduct and professionalism.
13. Other duties as assigned.

1. Ability to pass a criminal background check and be bonded.

5. Must establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, employees and co-workers.
6. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based upon business needs.
7. Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
8. Must be able to operate a forklift in a safe manner.
9. Must be able to safely operate baling, densifying, crushing, and sorting machines
10. Must pass a drug screen, including random drug testing as required by the Drug Free Workplace policy.

Physical Requirements:

1. Must be able to push, bend, and reach.
2. Must be able to lift 40 pounds with assistance.
3. Must be able to push wheeled hoppers exceeding 100 pounds.
4. Must be able to engage in prolonged standing.
5. Must be able to tolerate heat, dust and excessive noise.

Working Conditions:

Work is in a warehouse setting with exposure to extreme temperatures at times. Exposure to dust and noise from machinery. Masks and ear protection may be required.
