Function:
To provide adult education instruction and supportive services in basic literacy, academic tutoring and/or GED preparation.
Essential Functions: (must be able to perform these functions, with or without a reasonable accommodation).
- Provides world class customer service including effective communication with internal and external customers.
- Performs intake and informs prospective students of all Goodwill services.
- Conducts assessments of student’s basic skills to determine the most appropriate plan of instruction
- Develops student academic and career goals to be included on the plan of instruction (POI), outlining the necessary steps for successful completion.
- Conducts pre/post tests to measure student’s progress in alignment with the National Reporting System for Adult Education (NRS)
- Provides small group academic remediation for adults with varied skill levels, from basic literacy to GED preparation.
- Instructs, guides, and assists students in preparing to pass all 4 GED modules, effectively utilizing GEDReady practice test results, and the GED Test registration process.
- Provides participants opportunities to earn available professional certifications aligned with their chosen career pathways.
- Meets with participants individually at regular intervals to review academic progress, make adjustments to POI’s, and document college/career activity/progress.
- Maintains participant files keeping them up-to-date and adhering to confidentiality standards.
- Inputs demographic data and necessary participant updates in Goodwill database in a timely manner.
- Reports student progress through required reports and departmental records and through on-going communication with supervisor.
- Assists the Director of Educational Services in the training and recruitment of volunteer tutors, as necessary.
- Develops and maintains instructional and reinforcement materials for students and tutors.
- Stays current on adult education, workforce development, special population issues and best practices by participating in on-going training and professional development activities including seminars, conferences, in-house training and through personal research.
- Stays informed of community, agency, and program information through inter-office communications, and attendance at staff meetings.
- Participates in a variety of community awareness and fundraising activities which promote the program, agency and/or the funding source under the direction of supervisor.
- Acts as a positive role model for students in all aspects of professional performance.
- Observes all safety procedures and personnel policies.
- Regular attendance, as outlined in Goodwill’s policy, is required.

Experience and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or content related field (History, Math, English, Science) required with two years of secondary or adult education teaching/training experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience working with people with barriers to obtaining and maintaining employment preferred
- Proficiency in English, grammar, spelling and math
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to use hands, fingers and wrists, repetitively, using a computer keyboard.
