JOB SUMMARY: Merchandise inventory for sale, assist customers and operate the cash register as requested, while maintaining a neat, safe, orderly work environment in Outlet.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Organize the store by stocking and placing merchandise.
Maintain a neat, clean, and safe working and shopping environment by following good housekeeping practices.
- Assist customers:
- Greet customers with a friendly demeanor
- Actively assist customers in finding merchandise
- Report any problems/complaints to the Outlet Supervisor
Ensure the store is clean, safe and orderly for all customers, employees, program participants, and visitors.
Remove/sort unsold merchandise for recycling/disposal, as appropriate.
Assist with opening and closing procedures as requested. Perform cashier duties as requested.
Greet customers entering the outlet and thank them as they leave.
SECONDARY DUTIES
Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQ'D: None.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Retail sales and/or cash register
experience or equivalent, including "as-is" retail experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Basic math ability.
Familiarity with electronic cash registers (this may be learned on the job).
Familiarity with Company and Retail policies and procedures (this may be learned on the job).

SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:
Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred.
Ability to instruct new employees, as directed, in operational procedures. Ability to make decisions quickly and with confidence.
Ability to perform various duties, often changing from one task to another without losing efficiency or composure.
Ability to maintain a strong sales presence, demonstrating a high energy and enthusiastic work ethic that can be reflected in overall Outlet sales, cooperation with others, and employee morale.
Ability to learn and accurately perform opening/closing procedures, cash register operation, bank deposit procedures, and related paperwork as they pertain to store operations; and, as needed, supervise cash register function.
Ability to drive company vehicles and forklifts. This requires a good driving record, passing forklift training and obtaining forklift certification within 90 days of placement in the position, and may require evidence of personal liability insurance.
Ability to price merchandise at fair market value.
Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movements to safely move in around fixtures and merchandise.
Ability to move hands and fingers quickly to operate cash register and handle merchandise.
Ability to make judgments and decisions and communicate these clearly based on established policies.
Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.
Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.
JOB SETTING
Work is performed in a large warehouse made of metal, and in the adjacent outdoor area. The area is not climatically controlled, and the temperature will fluctuate widely. There is some exposure to dust, odors, and fumes. The working/standing surface is uniform. There is noise from radios. Work is completed in cooperation with sales staff and management. There is constant contact with the public. The job requires the incumbent to occasionally deal with short deadlines or special events, which may require some overtime. There are fluctuating periods of high activity/demands throughout the course of the workday.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work pace is steady with constant standing and walking. The job involves moderate to heavy physical work demands requiring regular lifting/carrying of up to 50 lbs. Large or heavy items (over 50 lbs.) are moved by using appropriate material handling equipment and/or with assistance from co-workers. Safe handling procedures must be followed.
Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
