What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head of Content position at GoodTalk?
Head of Content Operations
Full-Time · In-Person · New York City
About the Role
GoodTalk is an entertainment and content company with a focus on music, clothing, products, media, and original content. We are looking for a Head of Content Operations to lead the production side of everything we create.
This is a senior leadership role. You will own the full lifecycle of content production, from pre-production planning and crew coordination through shoot execution, asset delivery, and workflow systems. You will manage a team of creatives, videographers, and photographers, build and maintain our production pipeline, and serve as the operational backbone of the content team.
This role is not remote. You will be on-site multiple days per week at our Brooklyn office and on-location at shoots, sessions, shows, and events. You must be comfortable in fast-moving creative environments and equally comfortable building the structure that makes them run smoothly.
What You'll Own
Production: Music Videos, Content Shoots & Artist Campaigns
- Work with the creative lead to spearhead pre-production for all music video shoots: director coordination, location scouting, permitting, budgeting, talent scheduling, and crew assembly
- Oversee production of studio session content, BTS vlogs, and artist documentary content
- Manage product shoots including merchandise lookbooks, campaign videos, and e-commerce assets, from concept through final delivery
- Coordinate show and event coverage: live performance capture, red carpet, press runs, and in-the-field content for touring and NYC-based events
- Brief and manage photographers for photoshoots, BTS stills, press photos, and editorial assets
- Build shot lists and production briefs for every project, ensuring creative direction is clearly documented before any shoot begins
Team Management
- Directly manage the content production team including videographers, editors, photographers and additional contractors
- Assign projects, set deadlines, review deliverables, and hold the team accountable to timelines
- Build and maintain a vetted pool of freelance creatives, including directors, DPs, editors, graphic designers, and photographers that GoodTalk can deploy across projects
- Onboard and integrate new creative contractors and interns as the team grows
- Collaborate closely with the Social Strategist to ensure content is produced at the volume, format, and cadence required for distribution
Systems & Operations
- Own the content production calendar, maintaining a live schedule of all active shoots, deliverables, and launches synced with the broader marketing and release calendar
- Manage and maintain GoodTalk's project tracking in Asana: intake, status updates, ownership, and completion across all content projects
- Build and refine the system by which content is captured in the field (via videographers, artists, and their teams) and delivered back to the production team
- Establish and enforce a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, including an organized Dropbox and archive, so all photo and video assets are properly stored, labeled, and accessible
- Set up and manage a Patreon content workflow, ensuring regular behind-the-scenes and exclusive content is produced and scheduled
- Identify and implement tools, automations, and AI-assisted workflows that improve production speed and quality
Artist & Label Content
- Serve as the primary production point of contact for all GoodTalk-signed artists
- Coordinate content windows for artist-trips, building shoot plans and logistics for when artists are in NYC or in-market
- Oversee content production tied to album rollouts, single releases, merchandise drops, and label campaigns
- Work with creative directors and art directors (internal and external) to execute video treatments, cover art shoots, and campaign visuals
- Manage content production for GoodTalk's owned and operated media properties including Least Talented, The GoodTalk Show, the Beat Series, and more
What We're Looking For
Required
- 3-6 years of hands-on experience in content production, video production, or creative operations, in music, entertainment, or a fast-moving creative agency
- Demonstrated experience managing photo and video shoots from pre-production through delivery, including music videos, artist content, and product shoots
- Experience managing a team of creatives and holding them to deadlines and quality standards
- Strong working knowledge of production logistics: budgeting, scheduling, location coordination, and crew management
- Proficiency with project management tools (Asana or equivalent) and digital asset management systems
- Excellent communication and organizational skills: you are the person who makes sure nothing falls through the cracks
- Comfort working on-site in a fast-paced office and on-location at shoots, studios, venues, and events across NYC and occasionally on the road
- A genuine love for music, artists, and creative culture
Preferred
- Prior experience at a record label, music management company, or artist-facing media brand
- Familiarity with short-form video production and vertical content formats (TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts)
- Experience setting up or managing DAM systems (Dropbox, Frame.io, or similar)
- Existing relationships with freelance directors, photographers, and editors in the NYC creative market
- Experience with Patreon or fan-community content programs
- Exposure to AI-assisted creative tools and production automation
