We are seeking a strong, compliance-driven Director of Nursing (DON) to lead clinical operations, Medicaid Waiver oversight, and staff training for our growing healthcare organization. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring exceptional patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across all nursing services.
Position Overview
The Director of Nursing provides clinical leadership and oversight for all nursing services, including RN, LPN, CNA, and caregiver teams. This role ensures compliance with Mississippi regulations and 1915(c) HCBS Medicaid Waiver requirements while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and ethical care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
- Define scope of services (non-medical and skilled nursing)
- Establish scope of practice and delegation policies
- Create clinical chain of command and on-call procedures
- Approve clinical forms and documentation templates
- Ensure compliance with Mississippi state regulations
Patient Intake & Care Planning
- Oversee referral, admission, and discharge procedures
- Establish nursing assessment standards
- Develop Plan of Care (POC) protocols
- Maintain physician order requirements
- Supervise reassessment and supervisory visit schedules
Medicaid Waiver Compliance
- Oversee eligibility verification and service authorizations
- Ensure EVV compliance
- Implement chart audits and fraud prevention processes
- Maintain audit-ready documentation systems
- Prepare for state surveys and Medicaid audits
Nursing Practice & Infection Control
- Develop medication administration and skilled procedure policies
- Establish wound care, diabetes management, and vital sign standards
- Oversee infection control program and exposure response plans
- Implement emergency preparedness procedures
Quality Assurance & Risk Management
- Lead QAPI program development
- Monitor KPIs (falls, hospitalizations, medication errors, etc)
- Conduct incident investigations and root cause analyses
- Develop corrective action plans
Staff Training & Competency
- Develop clinical orientation and annual competency programs
- Ensure waiver-required training compliance
- Maintain training documentation and workforce compliance
- Oversee background check requirements
- Implement remediation and retraining processes
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Mississippi (required)
- Minimum 3–5 years of nursing leadership experience
- Experience with Medicaid Waiver programs (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of state regulations and compliance standards
- Experience preparing for audits and surveys
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Must be CPR and CPI Instructor Certified
