The Mechanical Engineer will partner with the development team and play a key role in supporting design by providing technical solutions across assigned data center projects.


The role will provide technical direction and operational advice, decision-making and overall leadership for data center technical specification and delivery across the Goodman portfolio in the US, and is responsible for managing internal and external resources in the delivery of the data center technical specifications.


The Mechanical Engineer will also support the Projects team in the management and reporting of projects to ensure they are delivered to Goodman’s quality, approved budget and time frame requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development team in assisting with preparation of RFP, RFI’s and Other technical requests made by customer engineering teams
  • Accountable for reviewing the related disciplines in the design process, providing instruction to RFIs and review/approve technical submittals
  • Research, evaluate, and inform mechanical/electrical equipment and other typology equipment/component selection to inform technical solution for respective customer requirements
  • Design, implement, and maintain the mechanical/electrical systems that support data center facilities, in conjunction with the development team
  • Provide technical support and input through delivery design phase to ensure performance requirements of mechanical and electrical equipment meets project requirements
  • Post delivery, undertake reviews of mechanical, electrical and plumbing performance to identify opportunities for optimization in operation, improvements in design and energy efficiency for future implementation
  • Provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and leadership for data center designs and critical infrastructure systems
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to procure high-quality equipment that meets technical specifications, performance requirements, and budgetary constraints
  • Manage external consultants and contractors to deliver on expectations and escalate issues to management
  • Use technical knowledge in ensuring the successful delivery of projects within budget, scope, and timeline
  • Establish and strengthen relationships and understanding of preferred vendor solutions to ensure efficient, cost effective and effective design solutions for Customer technical requirements and integration
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Scope, tender and engage consultancy services required for each project
  • Support Project Management resources in managing the preparation of project documentation
  • Manage the project’s design requirements including peer reviews, presentations, internal stakeholder review and coordination
  • Manage all authorities including coordination, design and approvals in line with project requirements
  • Provide feedback on project, contractor and consultant performance to General Manager, Data Center Development and raise issues as required including potential risks
  • Contribute to the development and evolution of a Goodman ‘Basis of Design’ as trends and technology evolves
  • Contribute to the feasibility phase by undertaking due diligence activities to validate technical solutions in site selection
  • Develop relationships with customers throughout the delivery process
  • Meet customer expectations
  • Deliver within timeframes and cost projections
  • Mentor team members including Project Managers and Administrators
  • Assist team in DD matters that are mechanical in nature.
  • Assist with ongoing key project learning including staff training and lessons learned sessions


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture, plus minimum 10 years’ experience as Mechanical/ Structural/ Electrical Engineer or Architect in a data center environment
  • Strong project management or project lead experience including RFQ/RFP process, selecting engineering teams, developing budgets, coordinating multiple consultant teams and facilitating meetings
  • Experience being involved in mechanical subcontractor and vendor relationships
  • Preferred licensed mechanical contractor (passed state of CA Test) or equivalent
  • High degree of proficiency in Data Center BOD Design, and some knowledge of industrial/commercial architecture.
  • Detailed knowledge of mechanical infrastructure and construction and estimating
  • Experience managing cross functional and/ or cross team projects
  • Strong contractual background with excellent negotiation skills and the ability to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Relevant qualifications in project management, engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Demonstrate a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering, with a primary focus on data centers
  • Demonstrate understanding of hyperscale and co-location data center operator’s basis of design and technical requirements
  • Understanding data center facility design and construction requirements
  • Strong understanding of project management and construction methodologies
  • Detailed knowledge of infrastructure and construction, and cost pricing
  • Understanding cost reports process
  • Intermediate Excel, Intermediate Word, and Basic PowerPoint
