This is a great opportunity to get experience supporting all the facets of the editorial process. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with great organizational and time management skills. This position will follow a hybrid schedule, working a minimum of one day per week in our Tinley Park, Illinois office.
Our compensation is market based and takes into account a variety of factors including the candidate’s skill set, experience level, internal equity, and location. For this position, we anticipate the starting salary falling between $40,000 and $45,000 per year. In addition, the company makes a 10% contribution to the Employee Stock Ownership Plan and a 4% matching contribution to the 401(k).

What you’ll do:
- Conduct manuscript reviews, which includes identifying qualified instructors, gathering and sending review materials to the reviewers, managing deadlines for multiple reviewers of several projects, and helping the editors assemble and analyze reviewers’ feedback.
- Assist with calling reviewers and completing internal back-end administration processes, ensuring that reviewers are paid and have a pleasant experience with Goodheart-Willcox.
- Use spreadsheets and databases to track administrative and editorial activities.
- Assist with market research as directed.
- Perform basic copyediting and proofreading as needed in a digital environment.
- Prepare digital manuscript copy and art sheets according to stylizing and formatting guidelines for production.
- Assist with photo research and acquisition, as needed, and maintain digital photo files.
- Track text and supplement corrections for reprints and process reprint panels.
- Perform quality assurance on software product ancillaries.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Degrees in English, Publishing Studies, or Journalism is a plus.
- Experience in college writing center, peer editing, or university publishing center is a plus.
- A minimum of six months of office support experience is a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of basic English language skills needed to perform editing tasks, specifically, sufficient grammar and usage skills to edit manuscript and create text copy at a level acceptable to Goodheart-Willcox publishing standards.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training sessions and deliver reports or presentations.
