What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Day Camp Counselor position at Good Times Day Camp?
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Employee will be assigned to either counselor or instructor responsibilities. Responsibilities include giving leadership, direction, and supervision to children in a full-day camp setting for ages 3-14 years. Employee will be leading the group in organized activities and focusing on the safety, enjoyment, and positive relationships of each child.
EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED:
– Create a safe, supportive, active, engaged, and fun environment for campers.
– Provide continuous, direct supervision during structured and unstructured activities, including swimming and out-of-the-building activities.
– Ensure camper’s safety on field trips and excursions.
– Practice personal leadership skills.
– Set clear and consistent limits and resolve behavioral problems with assistance from supervisors.
– Model appropriate behavior for campers.
– Follow and execute activities according to a pre-designed daily schedule.
– Lead a group of up to 12 campers with a fun, positive, and outgoing attitude.
– Interact with children, parents/guardians, and coworkers in a professional manner at all times.
– Understand and adhere to standard operating procedures for camp.
– Attend mandatory staff trainings and meetings.
– Perform basic office duties such as answering phones, making copies, filing, and gathering data, as needed.
– Perform other assigned duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
– Ability to work well in teams.
– Ability to be silly and use your imagination to play.
– Ability to juggle attention to one camper while supervising large groups.
– Enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise is a must.
– Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: From $15.50 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday

- What is your summer availability? It is preferred, all applicants will be available to work full time, Monday thru Friday from June 10th - August 16th. We do allows counselors to request up to 5 days off throughout the summer, possibly more depending on school obligations. Some blackout dates may apply. In addition all counselors must work through August 23rd unless they provide proof that their classes resume prior.
- Will you be at least 17 by June 10th? We are licensed by The Department of Children and Families and therefore have several age restrictions when it comes to who can work with certain campers.
