Major Duties
- Provide overall leadership and supervision for the COMPASS after-school program.
- Responsible for program and staff scheduling.
- Supervise assistant program director, group leaders, assistant group leaders, consultants, administrative staff, and volunteers; complete timely performance evaluations.
- Develop and facilitate weekly staff meetings.
- Conduct program outreach and coordinate enrollment and registration for all programs at the afterschool program.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of engaging, age-appropriate activities.
- Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the site.
- Supervise family involvement activities, as well as communication with parents regarding program expectations, child behavior, and health and safety issues.
- Provide daily crisis intervention with participants regarding personal and/or in-school issues that affect success in the program.
- Ensure appropriate utilization of internal and external databases, including DYCD Connect database.
- Complete required narrative and statistical reports promptly.
- Liaise with the principal and designated school staff to coordinate the activities for the program with ongoing educational programming.
- Participate in appropriate school-based teams or committees.
- Assume responsibility for partnerships with other community groups.
- Partner with Good Shepherd programs within the school to maximize comprehensive services provided to students and families; create linkages between Good Shepherd staff and Department of Education (DOE) staff.
- Monitor program budget and oversee implementation of Program Evaluation activities. - Work collaboratively with central office staff, providing information as needed efficiently.
- Ensure program’s compliance with Department of Health (DOH), OCFS, DYCD, and COA accreditation requirements.
- Program Directors are required to work occasional weekends and evenings to support organizational needs, including trainings, special events, and program-related activities.
- Program Directors are responsible for facilitating, monitoring, and tracking all required training and professional development for their supervisees, ensuring completion and compliance with GSS, DYCD, DOE, and DOH/OCFS regulatory standards.
- Develop and maintain a coordinated referral system by building community partnerships and connecting participants to mental health, counseling, family stabilization, and other essential support services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate Degree in Child Development or New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential; or
- School-Age Child Care Credential or;
- Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or Related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development programs and supervision.
- Must be able to engage in crisis intervention activities and demonstrate, lead, and teach a range of group activities.
- Must be available for weekend training requirements.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
