The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing nursing operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and effective staff management. The ADON assists with clinical leadership, staff development, policy implementation, and quality improvement initiatives to promote safe and efficient nursing services.
Key Responsibilities Clinical & Operational Leadership
- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing nursing services
- Ensure delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care in accordance with standards of practice
- Participate in daily clinical rounds and monitor patient outcomes
- Serve as acting Director of Nursing in the DON's absence
Staff Management & Development
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance evaluations of nursing staff
- Provide clinical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to nursing team members
- Address staff concerns, conflict resolution, and corrective actions as needed
- Support ongoing education, training, and competency assessments
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS, state health departments)
- Assist with audits, surveys, and inspections; participate in corrective action plans
- Monitor quality indicators, incident reports, and infection control practices
- Promote patient safety initiatives and risk-management strategies
Policies, Procedures & Documentation
- Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing nursing policies and procedures
- Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Support implementation of evidence-based nursing practices
Communication & Collaboration
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and administrative staff
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers
- Participate in leadership meetings and provide reports as requested
The ideal candidate will work 3 days in the office helping with wounds and infection control. Must obtain an Infection Preventionalist Certificate. The other two days will be on the floor as a charge nurse.
