Assistant Director of Food Services (Working Supervisor – Evenings)
Good Shepherd Care Center is seeking a dependable, motivated, and team-oriented Assistant Director of Food Services to join our Dietary Department. This is a working supervisor position with a primary focus on preparing high-quality meals while assisting with the daily management and operation of the department.
Schedule:
- Evening Shift: 11:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Rotating weekends required
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Food Services serves as both a leader and an active member of the dietary team. This position is responsible for preparing meals for residents while assisting the Food Services Director with scheduling, ordering, inventory, staff supervision, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal dietary regulations.
Essential Job Duties
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals according to planned menus and therapeutic diets.
- Ensure food is prepared, portioned, and served in accordance with sanitation and food safety standards.
- Assist the Food Services Director with food and supply ordering.
- Assist with creating and maintaining staff schedules.
- Supervise dietary staff during evening shifts and weekends.
- Train and mentor new dietary employees.
- Ensure the kitchen remains clean, organized, and inspection-ready.
- Monitor food quality, temperatures, and proper storage procedures.
- Maintain inventory and assist with controlling food costs.
- Help ensure compliance with all Missouri Department of Health and CMS regulations.
- Assist with department documentation and recordkeeping.
- Step into the Food Services Director's role during absences as needed.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and team-focused work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous cooking experience required; long-term care or healthcare dietary experience preferred.
- Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable attendance and excellent teamwork.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
