Non-Profit Thrift Store Manager
Full Time/40 hours per week $18.97 per hour
Every other Saturday required and as needed for staff coverage
Position Summary
The Non-Profit Thrift Store Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the thrift store, ensuring a welcoming shopping experience while supporting the organization's mission. This position oversees staff and volunteers, manages donations and inventory, drives sales, maintains financial accountability, and ensures compliance with organizational policies. The Store Manager plays a key role in generating revenue that supports the nonprofit's programs and services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Store Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the thrift store.
- Ensure the store is clean, organized, safe, and visually appealing.
- Maintain efficient opening and closing procedures.
- Monitor store performance and implement strategies to increase sales and customer satisfaction.
Staff and Volunteer Leadership
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate employees and volunteers.
- Foster a positive, mission-driven work environment.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to staff and volunteers.
- Ensure adequate staffing during operating hours.
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally.
- Build positive relationships with donors, customers, volunteers, and community partners.
- Promote the nonprofit's mission through positive public interaction.
Donations and Inventory Management
- Oversee the acceptance, sorting, pricing, merchandising, and rotation of donated goods.
- Ensure donations are processed efficiently and according to organizational standards.
- Monitor inventory levels and maximize sales through effective merchandising.
- Coordinate disposal or recycling of unsellable items in accordance with organizational policies.
Financial Management
- Manage daily cash handling, deposits, and point-of-sale operations.
- Prepare sales reports and monitor store budgets.
- Meet revenue goals while maintaining expense controls.
- Assist with annual budgeting and financial planning.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain a safe environment for employees, volunteers, customers, and donors.
- Address facility maintenance needs promptly.
Community Engagement
- Promote donation drives, special sales, and community events.
- Represent the organization professionally within the community.
- Support fundraising initiatives and outreach efforts.
- Social Media Management: Develop, schedule, and publish content across social media platforms, engage with followers, monitor trends, and track analytics to increase agency awareness and customer engagement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
- Two to five years of retail management experience; thrift or nonprofit experience preferred.
- Experience supervising employees and volunteers.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems and basic financial reporting.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders as needed.
- Work in varying temperatures while handling donations
