What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Technologist position at Good Samaritan Hospital Association dba Heart of America Medical Center?
Perform tests and report results to physicians for use in diagnostic, treatment and/or monitoring the treatment of disease; perform tasks, duties and/or complex tests in all areas of the laboratory assigned including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, microbiology, microscopy, routine chemistry and therapeutic drug monitory in accordance with established laboratory protocols and procedures; perform phlebotomies including arterial punctures, capillary punctures and venipunctures as appropriate for the patient requiring the procedure; process specimens utilizing protocols and technical knowledge; calibrate, standardize and maintain instruments following established procedures; perform quality control, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents and procedures; validate reports and results of tests performed; deliver patient reports according to times indicated in the Policy and Collection Manual; assist with orientation and teaching of students and new employees; research and develop new procedures as assigned; follow established safety practices including biohazards, exposure control plan (blood-borne pathogens), infection control to include universal precautions, employee right to know (hazardous chemicals) and chemical hygiene standards. May mentor less experienced team members.
Special Skills: Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology and ASCP Certification or North Dakota Med Tech license or be immediately eligible.
