Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Bilingual Medical Assistant (English/Spanish) who is also comfortable performing phlebotomy when needed.
This position serves as the Practice's Backup Phlebotomist. Until a dedicated phlebotomist is hired, the Medical Assistant will perform all venipuncture and specimen processing. Thereafter, the position will provide phlebotomy coverage during staff absences or high-volume periods.
The ideal candidate has experience in Family Medicine or Primary Care, is proficient in eClinicalWorks (eCW), works independently with minimal supervision, and demonstrates professionalism, reliability, and accountability.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, medication reconciliation, allergies, medical history, and other required clinical information.
- Complete all Medical Assistant-designated sections of the electronic medical record (eClinicalWorks), ensuring documentation is accurate, complete, and entered in a timely manner.
- Assist the physician during examinations and minor office procedures.
- Administer physician-ordered vaccines and intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SQ) injections.
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing.
- Prepare laboratory specimens, process Quest Diagnostics lockboxes, and coordinate courier pickup.
- Maintain exam rooms, equipment, and supplies in accordance with OSHA and infection-control standards.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Perform pre-visit planning to ensure charts, laboratory results, imaging studies, and outside medical records are available before patient appointments.
- Contact patients to confirm appointments and verify the reason for the visit.
- Maintain accurate scheduling and documentation within eClinicalWorks.
- Submit insurance prior authorizations and specialist referrals.
- Process prescription refill requests as directed by the physician.
- Notify patients of normal laboratory and imaging results when authorized.
- Complete end-of-day review of patient messages and communication platforms.
- Collaborate closely with front-office staff to maintain efficient daily workflow.
- Perform additional clinical and administrative duties assigned by the Medical Director.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Primary Care.
- Working knowledge of eClinicalWorks (eCW) required.
- Fluent in both English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated experience performing venipuncture independently.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative team environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to excellent patient care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA).
- Experience with insurance prior authorizations.
- Experience coordinating specialist referrals.
- Experience in a physician-owned private practice.
- Experience performing EKGs and point-of-care testing.

Physical Requirements

Compensation
- $18.00–$22.00 per hour, based on experience.

This is currently a part-time position and does not include employee benefits.
As the practice continues to grow, this position is expected to transition into a full-time role. Future full-time employees may become eligible for benefits such as Paid Time Off (PTO), health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance based on practice growth and eligibility requirements.
