About the Role:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities by providing compassionate and personalized support. This position involves assisting clients in achieving greater independence through daily living activities, skill development, and community integration. The DSP serves as a trusted advocate and caregiver, ensuring the safety, dignity, and well-being of those they support. Collaboration with families, healthcare providers, and other team members is essential to create and implement individualized care plans. Ultimately, the DSP contributes to fostering an inclusive environment where clients can thrive and participate fully in their communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass background checks.
  • Evidence of negative TB test result.
  • Basic knowledge of caregiving principles and experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Direct Support Professional or related credential.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and behavior management techniques.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation systems.
  • Additional training in developmental disabilities or healthcare fields.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to individuals with disabilities, including assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and mobility.
  • Implement individualized support plans that promote skill development, independence, and community involvement.
  • Monitor and document client progress, behaviors, and any changes in health or well-being, communicating effectively with supervisors and healthcare professionals.
  • Facilitate social, recreational, and educational activities that align with clients’ interests and goals.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive environment by adhering to all health, safety, and regulatory guidelines.

The required skills enable the DSP to provide compassionate and effective support tailored to each individual's needs, ensuring safety and promoting independence. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and report progress.
