Job Summary:
The Safety Technician will report directly to the Safety Manager and be responsible developing and carrying out procedures with production Team Members that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize OSHA violations.

The Safety Technician will report directly to the Safety Manager and be responsible developing and carrying out procedures with production Team Members that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize OSHA violations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the Safety manager with safety audits and daily walk throughs to ensure team members are working in a safe manner
- Design and implement workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous work conditions
- Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure that they follow safety standards and government regulations
- Help prepare reports of findings with recommendations for corrective action
- Assist with incident investigations (including near misses) to determine root cause and prepare corrective and preventative action plans for OSHA reporting
- Work with plant leadership at all levels on issues involving safety and proper PPE
- Report and document complaints, problems, or unusual occurrences immediately to their Safety Manager
- Provide detailed information back to management that are crucial to safety operations and meeting OSHA guidelines
- Review OSHA logs to identify trends and make recommendations
- Provide first aid / CPR to injured associates, as a certified first responder
- Demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment
- Evaluate programs on workplace health and safety
- Educate employers and workers about workplace safety by preparing and providing training programs
- Assist with ergonomics assessments, assist in managing HAZMAT and chemical storage programs, and evaluate fire prevention plans
- Use knowledge of DNR and EPA regulations to handle and dispose of waste
- Provide service and support for the inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems per NFPA
- Conduct EHS programs and self-assessment audits on site in order to maintain both regulatory and company compliance status and codes
- Comply with all Company rules, regulations and policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Minimum of High school diploma/GED preferred
- Safety technician experience preferred
- Production and/or warehouse experience desirable, food manufacturing a plus
- Able to work overtime and weekends when needed
- Valid Driver’s License
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be flexible; ability to change strategies quickly to accommodate changing business needs
- Ability to problem solve and provide strategic solutions quickly
- Ability to use independent judgement skills and decision-making skills to resolve situations while maintaining confidentiality
- Bilingual Spanish preferred
- No travel required
- Individual will be subject to production and warehouse environment approximately 85 percent of the work time. (Wet environment with temperatures in the range of 38 to 40 degrees)
- Medium/High noise levels from operating machines
- Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
- Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to enforce Good Food Manufacturing (GMP’s) processes
- Use hands to find, handle, touch and manipulate items
- Speak and/or hear
- Stand for extended periods, walk and reach with hands or arms
- Occasionally stoop, reach, crouch, twist and walk
- Have vision abilities to include proximate vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus as well as be able to effectively see and process computer generated images on a screen
