What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Dog Groomer / Salon Manager — Help Build a New Salon position at Good Coat?
I’m opening an independent dog grooming salon with a pet retail section, and I’m looking for an experienced groomer who wants to help shape the business from the beginning.
I’m looking to bring the right person on board and get started as soon as possible. I’m ready to begin interviews now and move into paid planning and setup work once we agree on the role and compensation.
My background is in business ownership and operations. I’m prepared to invest in the right person, equipment, and marketing to give this salon a strong start. I also want to understand the grooming industry from someone who knows it firsthand—what makes a salon run smoothly, what customers value, and what groomers need to do their best work.
Your experience and honest input will matter here. You’ll work directly with ownership and have a meaningful voice in how the salon is set up and operated.
The goal is to build a lasting working relationship with someone who takes pride in their craft and wants to share in the success of the business. I’m willing to pay well and share profits with the person who helps make that happen.
This role will involve:
- Helping select equipment and plan a practical salon layout.
- Developing services, pricing, and realistic appointment schedules.
- Establishing safe handling, cleanliness, and grooming standards.
- Providing professional grooming and building relationships with customers.
- Helping select retail products that customers will find useful.
- Supporting the hiring and development of the grooming team as the business grows.
The compensation package will include:
- 50% commission on the grooming services you perform.
- 100% of your individual customer tips.
- A negotiated percentage of the salon’s net operating profits.
- Commission on eligible retail sales.
The profit-sharing percentage, retail commission, responsibilities, and payment schedule will be agreed in writing before you accept the position. Any planning or setup work before opening will also have agreed paid terms before it begins.
I’m looking for an experienced professional who can groom independently, handle dogs safely, communicate well with customers, and explain their ideas clearly. Experience managing a salon, training groomers, or helping open a location would be especially valuable.
You should feel comfortable asking questions, sharing what you’ve learned, and speaking up when something could work better. I want to learn from your experience and put it to use in building a well-run salon.
The business is currently in the planning and location-selection stage. Initial planning hours can be arranged around your current schedule as we work toward opening.
If you’re interested, apply with a brief overview of your grooming experience, a few examples of your work, and what you would want from your next position. You’re welcome to ask questions about the opportunity—we can start with a conversation about your experience, your goals, and how we could work together.
