Good Child Development Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that has been providing excellence in childcare for 57 years. Located in the heart of Milford, Connecticut, we house children ages 6 weeks to 6 years in a beautiful building specifically designed for early childhood education. Our NAEYC accredited center applies a play to learn methodology and focuses on meeting every child's developmental and social-emotional needs. Job Overview

We're seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher's Assistant to join our early childhood education team and help close our facility daily.

The ideal candidate will support lead teachers in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development.

This role requires a commitment to providing high-quality care for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old, while collaborating with parents and staff to ensure the best outcomes for each child. Our center focuses on individualized lessons that adapt our standard routine to each child's specific needs.

We employ a play-to-learn approach, where children grow intellectually and socially through fun and engaging activities that incorporate art, science, literacy, socializing, motor skills through the Experience Curriculum

Responsibilities

  • Assist home-room teachers in implementing age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Provide care and support for infants, toddlers and preschoolers, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the whole day.
  • Cover lunch and bathroom breaks, maintaining ratios and staying attentive to children.
  • Supervising children appropriately in different settings (classroom, playground, great room)
  • Encouraging student participation and engagement with a hands-on approach.
  • Implement behavior management strategies.
  • Assist with serving meals, nap time, diapering/potty and preparing activities.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and administration.
  • Communicate with families during drop off and pick up, greeting caregivers and providing information about the child's day.
  • Maintain an organized classroom environment, avoiding clutter and cleaning up after meals and activities.
  • Collaborate with other educators to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Learn and implement closing procedures to close classrooms.
  • Familiarize with children in each room and their specific needs (dietary restrictions, allergies and care plans).
  • Follow policies and procedures while maintaining compliance with OEC standards.
  • Write and file Incident, Accident and Illness Reports.
  • Use the Brightwheel app to communicate, log activities and notify families.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in childcare
  • Work authorization
  • Background check
  • Current Physical Exam (less than 1 year old)
  • Lifting and carrying young children
