Overview:
Goochland Education Foundation is seeking passionate and dedicated After-School Counselors to join our after-school enrichment program operating at Byrd Elementary, Goochland Elementary, and Randoph Elementary schools. The program runs Monday–Friday during the school year from approximately 2:00 PM–6:00 PM and provides safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate activities that promote academic support, creativity, social skills, and positive behavior.
Position Summary:
After-School Counselors will support the daily operation of the after-school program by supervising students, leading small- and large-group activities, assisting with homework and enrichment lessons, and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment. Counselors work under the direction of the Program Director and collaborate with site staff to ensure consistent routines and high-quality youth programming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise students before, during, and after activities to ensure safety and positive behavior.
- Lead and facilitate hands-on enrichment activities (arts, STEM, games, physical activities, literacy).
- Provide homework help and academic support, encouraging good study habits.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students and promote social-emotional skills.
- Enforce program rules and classroom routines; use proactive behavior management strategies.
- Assist with set-up, clean-up, and preparation of materials and activity spaces.
- Communicate respectfully with parents/guardians and report concerns to the Program Director.
- Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and other documentation as required.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and occasional school- and program-related events.
Qualifications:
Experience in working with children in a structured environment.
Successful completion of all background checks required under the Virginia Department of Education's childcare/child-serving personnel screening requirements, including but not limited to a criminal history background check, sex offender registry check, and Child Protective Services (CPS) central registry check.
Pay: $20.00 per hour
