What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Goochland County?
• Washes windows and walls, woodwork, and venetian blinds as needed.
• Cleans and restocks supplies in rest rooms.
• Dusts and/or polishes desks, chairs, tables, shelves, and other furniture and equipment.
• Handles and stores supplies.
• Prepares quantities of cleaning materials by appropriately mixing correct amounts from bulk containers.
• Closes and locks building after meetings when required.
• Works in emergencies when required.
• Performs other assigned duties.
• Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.
• Ability to use supplies and equipment economically and efficiently.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to read and comply with Safety Data Sheets.
• Ability to mix cleaning compounds safely and in accordance with manufacturer’s directions.
• Ability to complete required safety training.
• Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
• Ability to frequently lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate heavy buffing equipment.
• Ability to climb, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
• Ability to tolerate exposure to cleaning chemicals and compounds.
• Ability to work extended or broken shifts in emergency situations.
High school diploma or equivalent;
Prior working experience involving general cleaning of buildings;
Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
Valid State of Virginia Driver’s License with a driving record that meets HR Policy requirements.• Must be able to work extended or broken shifts in emergency situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping, handling, and grasping.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and requires some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, covered loading docks, garages, etc.) or irate citizens, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust. The worker is exposed to cleaning chemicals and compounds.
