What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Dean position at GONZALES HIGH SCHOOL?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Academic Dean shall report to the Principal of the school and assist the Principal in the organization, administration, and supervision of all personnel, instruction, curriculum, budget, parent relations, and public information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree
- Principal Certification or eligible for temporary certification (preferred)
- Leadership experience in staff development, curriculum and assessment
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrated expertise in content, curriculum development, student learning, test analysis, mentoring, and professional development as demonstrated by an advanced degree, advanced training and/or career experience
- Instructional expertise demonstrated through model teaching, team-teaching, video presentations, and student achievement gains
- Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in adults
- Ability to establish positive and productive professional relationships with co-workers, parents, site principals, and district administration
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Monitors and assists teachers in the planning and implementation of curriculum, goals, and objectives to provide effective learning experiences for each student and raise student achievement.
- Actively monitors and leads the discussion of the District benchmark assessments results and plans for improvement.
- Observes teachers in their classrooms, evaluates performance, and provides feedback.
- Supervises Department Chairs in implementing the District curriculum and monitoring instruction.
- Assists in interviewing and selecting campus instructional staff.
- Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing staff development programs for teachers to raise their level of instructional effectiveness.
- Coordinates the student assessment program and disseminates and interprets test data relating to the overall instructional program.
- Works closely with Curriculum & Instruction staff to improve instructional delivery and assists in coordinating special programs (At-Risk, Comp. Ed., Chapter 1, Bilingual, Special Education, Vocational) with the regular program.
- Assists with the planning, coordination, and monitoring of student scheduling.
- Assists in developing campus budgets relating to staff development, curriculum and instruction.
- Assists in coordination of planning and implementation of instructional technology program.
- Conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of the Campus Improvement Plan.
- Analyzes teacher and campus made tests for relevancy, appropriateness, and content.
- Actively seeks to improve course offerings, instructional delivery, and proven strategies to increase student achievement.
- Assists with planning and implementation of programs and activities for campus parent involvement.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned by the principal.
