Vascular Tech Description
General Summary: This position is primarily responsible for performing general and vascular ultrasound exams. Exams must be performed according to departmental protocol and in accordance with the standards as set by the Inter-societal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) and departmental protocol under the direction of a radiologist in a manner to provide exceptional customer service.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
General Requirements: All duties performed will be done accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Assumes responsibility for maintaining clinical competencies according to Gonzaba Medical Group policy.
2. Ensures customer service is always maintained at the highest level.
3. Exercise tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, visitors, providers, and co-workers.
4. Must always adhere to customer service expectations including in-person and virtual (via telephone, or telehealth applications) communication.
5. Participates in educational programs as needed.
6. Performs clerical functions as required including answering the telephone, filing, copying, and faxing, etc.
7. Assists with other modalities when available.
8. Other duties as assigned.
9. Maintain strict confidentiality.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Obtains patient history, explains standard procedures and addresses patient concerns.
2. Produces sonographic views of specific areas as required by the departmental procedures.
3. Assures all exams have proper authorization for ordered study.
4. Prepares patients for ultrasound procedures utilizing established protocols for patient care and safety.
5. Prepares patient for exam.
6. Ensures equipment is in working order.
7. Runs QC test on specified days.
8. Monitors (quality control) their own exams and for other Sonographers the technical quality by setting proper sonography techniques for each view/exam.
9. Reports equipment malfunctions to Radiology Supervisor.
10. Reports Quality issues to the Medical Director, the Imaging Services Manager and the QC committee.
11. Logs procedures completed.
12. Process routine paperwork.
13. Maintains Ultrasound room clean and organized.
14. Stock necessary medical supplies.
Work Environment: Clinic environment. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Mental / Physical Requirements: Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, kneeling, crouching, bending, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work efficiently under pressure.

Qualifications
Education and Training: Minimum high school education or equivalent. Requires completion of an accredited ultrasound program. Must be CPR and AED certified.
Must have one of the following credentials:
Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography [RT(VS)]
Must keep all licenses and certifications current and in good standing as initial and continued employment is contingent up these credentials.
Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience required in general ultrasound, arterial leg and arm Dopplers, venous leg and arterial Dopplers, renal Dopplers, and Carotid Dopplers.
Other Requirements: Computer Skills: Knowledge of word-processing software, spreadsheet software; Internet software and database software. RIS/PAC program knowledge is required. EMR software experience is preferred.
