The Human Resources Generalist provides HR generalist support to employees across assigned locations. This role reports to the HR Manager and functions as part of a collaborative HR team, assisting with other locations as needed to ensure consistent service and support across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for resolving employee relations issues and conducting effective, thorough, and objective investigations. Works closely with management to determine appropriate resolutions and outcomes.
- Under the direction of the HR Manager, work with management to successfully resolve matters involving policy interpretation, discipline, performance assessment, and terminations.
- Administer and interpret labor agreements and assist with grievance procedures.
- Conduct new hire orientation and manage the onboarding process.
- Assist in the administration of the company’s benefits programs, including the communication and delivery of benefit plans during New Hire Onboarding and the annual Open Enrollment process.
- Oversee the administration of leave of absence programs.
- Coordinate workers’ compensation claims in partnership with the Safety Manager, including documentation, reporting, and follow-up.
- Conduct exit interviews and provide insights and trends to management.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new programs, plans, policies, and procedures.
- Responsible for full‐cycle recruitment for exempt and non‐exempt positions.
- Create and recommend new approaches, programs, and policies designed to improve the selection and retention of high‐performing teams.
- Collaborate with the Payroll team to ensure accurate and timely submission of employee changes and provide guidance to managers on completing required updates.
- Develop strong partnerships with employees and leadership at all levels, modeling positive and professional rapport.
- Assist in creating and maintaining a comprehensive database of job descriptions and role profiles.
- Assist with execution of the annual performance review process.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least five years of progressive HR generalist experience with emphasis on employee relations and full‐cycle recruitment is required.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish is required.
- Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce is a plus.
- Must be extremely flexible with job duties and able to adapt to a fast‐paced environment that is committed to providing excellent service to all employees.
- Must possess a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with employees and management at all levels.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency at an intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- In‐depth knowledge of Illinois and federal employment laws; knowledge of Washington state employment laws is a plus.
- Ability to travel occasionally, both in‐state and out‐of‐state, is preferred.
Salary : $70,000 - $75,000
