Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director to lead our Summer Camp program. This pivotal role involves overseeing the strategic direction, operational management, and quality assurance of programs designed to foster childhood development, learning, and well-being. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for working with children, a strong background in education or childcare, and exceptional leadership skills to create an engaging, safe, and nurturing environment for all participants.

SUMMARY:

The Summer Camp Director is a part time seasonal position, supervising 10 part time seasonal workers, while being responsible for the overall organization, supervision, planning and scheduling of 60 summer camp campers on a daily basis.

SUPERVISORY:

The Summer Camp Director reports directly to the Superintendent of Recreation.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Preparation and Training

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluates camp staff
  • Help prepare, participate, lead, and attend a minimum of 15 hours of training prior to the start of camp for all staff
  • Plans all field trips and transportation prior to the start of camp
  • Orders all necessary equipment and supplies for Summer Camp
  • Oversees all pre-camp registration and concerns
  • Schedules needed in-service training sessions throughout Summer Camp to address safety concerns or issues, while holding a weekly staff meeting

Administration

  • Summer day camp program
  • Responsible for sign-in, on-site registration, attendance sheets, sign-out, and supervision at all times.
  • Prepares bi-weekly payroll which is turned into the payroll
  • Responsible for administering positive interactions with parents and guardians
  • Prepares mid-season and final evaluations for all staff
  • Responsible for acquiring, filing, and access to emergency forms
  • Send out forms and parent manuals
  • Addresses any behavior or discipline issues with the appropriate staff
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Displays effective leadership in all areas of Camp
  • Sets and enforces disciplinary standards with both staff and participants throughout camp
  • Cooperatively ensures that the correct staff are in place a daily basis
  • Communicates directly with Superintendent of Recreation to ensure planning
  • Delegates duties and tasks to camp staff

  • Knowledge and experience in the day-to-day operations of a park district

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Must be able to work in hot conditions indoors and outdoors and assume an active role in camp

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Risk Management/Safety

  • Assist as requested or required in the safety inspections of program facilities and equipment in order to provide assurance that all risk management practices are in compliance with district safety rules and procedures.
  • Fosters a working environment that promotes safe work habits and active participation in the agency’s risk management program.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all general agency and department specific safety rules.
  • Report any work related injuries to the supervisor promptly.
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to the supervisor.
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and/or moving objects 50 pounds or heavier.
  • Addresses unsafe employee and patron behaviors by approaching, correcting and coaching.
  • Uses protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to pathogens.
  • Completes incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to the safety coordinator.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
