SUMMARY: The Regional Director of Operations (RDO) is responsible for the overall operational, financial, and regulatory performance of multiple skilled nursing and long-term care facilities within an assigned region. This role provides leadership, guidance, and support to facility administrators to ensure quality resident care, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and financial success.

The RDO works collaboratively with clinical leadership, finance, human resources, and corporate teams to implement company policies, drive performance improvement initiatives, and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing long-term care facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic oversight and operational leadership to assigned skilled nursing facilities.
  • Supervise and support Facility Administrators.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Conduct regular facility visits and operational reviews.
  • Support facilities during state surveys, audits, and inspections.
  • Implement corrective action plans for survey deficiencies.
  • Monitor quality indicators and ensure continuous improvement in resident care outcomes.
  • Oversee facility financial performance including budgets, revenue, and expense management.
  • Monitor key financial metrics such as census, payer mix, labor costs, and operating margins.
  • Collaborate with administrators to develop and implement financial improvement plans.
  • Partner with Regional IDT Leaders to ensure high standards of resident care.
  • Monitor quality measures, infection control practices, and clinical compliance.
  • Promote best practices in clinical operations and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of facility leadership teams.
  • Mentor and coach administrators to improve leadership and operational effectiveness.
  • Address staffing challenges and assist in workforce planning strategies.
  • Collaborate with admissions, marketing, and hospital relations teams to maintain and grow census.
  • Develop strategies to improve occupancy and payer mix.
  • Monitor operations including:
    • Census and occupancy
    • Survey results
    • Labor costs
    • Quality metrics
    • Resident satisfaction
  • Provide regular reports to executive leadership on regional performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local long-term care regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or related field required.
  • Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) required.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of leadership experience in long-term care or skilled nursing operations.
  • Experience managing multiple facilities strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CMS regulations, survey process, and quality metrics.
