Overview
A leading NYC-based hedge fund is seeking an Execution Trader to support its Macro investment team with a particular focus on commodities and listed futures. The ideal candidate has deep market knowledge across global commodities, strong execution skills, and hands-on experience using leading execution platforms and vendor tools (e.g., Bloomberg). This individual will work closely with portfolio managers, analysts, and operations to ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality trade execution across multiple markets and time zones.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute commodities (energy, metals, ags) and global futures orders across major exchanges with precision, speed, and best-execution discipline.
- Monitor markets in real time, manage order flow, and provide intra-day trade color and liquidity insights to PMs and the macro team.
- Maintain strong relationships with brokers, liquidity providers, and FCMs.
- Use execution platforms and vendor tools (e.g., Bloomberg EMSX, trade order management systems, algo execution suites) to manage orders and optimize execution quality.
- Track and analyze execution performance, slippage, and transaction cost metrics.
- Stay current on market structure developments, exchange/clearing changes, and macro drivers impacting liquidity and pricing.
- Coordinate with operations, compliance, and risk teams to ensure accurate trade capture, timely settlement, and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Support overnight or early-session trading as needed depending on market coverage.
Qualifications
- 3–6 years of experience as an execution trader, assistant trader, or trading desk specialist at a hedge fund, prop shop, bank, or commodity-focused trading firm.
- Strong knowledge of commodities and futures markets, including liquidity dynamics, contract specifications, and roll calendars.
- Hands-on experience with execution and order management platforms (Bloomberg EMSX or similar).
- Excellent understanding of market microstructure and electronic trading workflows.
- Proven ability to operate in fast-moving environments with high attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with PMs, brokers, and internal teams.
- Self-starter with strong analytical skills and a process-driven mindset.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related field; advanced degrees a plus.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with macro trading across rates, FX, and equities in addition to commodities.
- Experience improving execution workflows, automation, and data-driven execution analysis.
- Python or data-analysis skills (a plus but not required).
Salary : $150,000 - $180,000
