Reports To: Building Principal and CTE Director


Job Goal: The Paraeducator is responsible for supporting and assisting students in various school settings.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree OR 48 semester/72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university OR passing score of 461 on the ParaPro Assessment. ParaPro Assessment must be completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Obtain a plan 2 driver's abstract and transport students for field trips, conferences, and other events.
  • Work experience in the profession of building trades, experience working with high school age students, or post-secondary education in a related field, or a combination there of.
  • Physical ability to lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and programs.
  • Demonstrated competency in oral and written communication.
  • Willingness to continue education as opportunities provided through the school.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, professional tact, diplomacy, and presentation with administrators, students, teachers, parents and the community.
  • Possesses, in the judgement of the administration, personal qualifications to perform such duties including ability to:
    • Work with staff and the general public in a professional and appropriate manner;
    • Comprehend and maintain detailed and often confidential
    • Make independent judgments in accordance with school/program procedures and policies;
    • Display loyalty and integrity
  • Must be patient, compassionate and persistent.
  • Must pass physical.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Support CTE students of all abilities in the classroom and shop areas.
  • Travel and attend Career and Technical Student Organization conferences.
  • Complete the Fundamental Course of Study (28 hours of continuous training, provided by District) within first year of employment.
  • Communicate with parents and staff in a variety of school settings as instructed by the teacher.
  • Assist students with organizing work, completing assignments, meeting deadlines, note taking, test preparation and test taking.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, families and co-workers.
  • Maintain secure and confidential records of all department and district data while abiding by and upholding all Board policies and procedures.
  • Collect data and report student progress.
  • Maintain accurate data collection records.
  • Provide positive behavior management support.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Report to supervisor regularly about the schedule and atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Adapt teaching methods to achieve student goals.
  • Participate as a member of the education team. May attend parent conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment:

  • 191 work days with paid holidays outlined in the PSE bargaining agreement
  • Hours: 6.75, Monday-Friday
  • Affiliation: PSE

  • Evaluation: Annually
  • House Bill 1115 requires all paraeducators to meet common statewide standards. To meet these standards, you must be at least eighteen years old and hold a High School Diploma or its equivalent; and have passed the education testing service assessment for a paraeducator. Exemptions to the paraeducator test is that you hold an associate's degree; have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits in high education. You will be conditionally hired pending meeting one of the requirements listed, within 90 days of employment. Testing information will be provided.
