JOB GOAL
To help handicapped students achieve their maximum potential in the least restrictive environment; facilitate the implementation of handicapped students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP); adhere to State/Federal laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide direct instruction, individually or in groups to handicapped students to achieve goals stated on their IEP’s
• Utilize the desired Exit Skills (Grad Level Objectives K-8 and Course Objectives 9-12) as adopted by the Governing Board as a framework for the SDC program
• Adapt and/or modify the Desired Exit Skills to meet the specific educational needs of handicapped students
• Facilitate the implementation of each handicapped students IEP including goals and objectives, Designated Instructional/Related Services and other specific needs and services
• Provide a classroom environment and management system to ensure proper control of students within the educational setting and which reflects a continuum of skill development for each handicapped student
• Provide appropriate instructional strategies and techniques to help remediate or minimize the interference of students’ handicaps in achieving their educational goals
• Monitor students’ progress through regular assessment of their individual achievement and as needed for annual and triannual reviews
• Facilitate the successful integration and, when appropriate, mainstreaming of handicapped students in the regular program
• Coordinate IEP process to include development of appropriate goals and objectives. Designate Instructional/Related Services and all other aspects of the IEP with parents, school psychologist, site administrator and other support staff
• Maintain frequent parent-teacher communication regarding students’ academic, social and behavior progress
• Adhere to the State and Federal laws and guidelines pertaining to special education and handicapped children
• Enforce rules governing the conduct of students as prescribed by the Education Code, Title V, Governing Board District and School Administrator
• Performs co-curricular and/or adjunct duties as assigned by the site administrator and/or the Director of Auxiliary Education
