Job Summary
An OR/PACU ENT Nurse specializes in the perioperative care of patients undergoing ear, nose, and throat surgeries, managing them from pre-operative preparation to immediate post-anesthesia recovery. They monitor vital signs, manage airway stability, treat post-operative pain/nausea, and provide specialized care for head/neck surgical sites.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-operative Care: Perform physical assessments, review medical history, and prepare patients for ENT procedures (e.g., tonsillectomy, tympanoplasty, sinus surgery).
- Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU): Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, tracking vital signs, assessing consciousness, and ensuring airway stability.
- Specialized ENT Care: Manage specialized dressings, monitor for hemorrhage (especially post-tonsillectomy)
- Medication Administration: Administer post-operative pain medication, antiemetics, and monitor for side effects or allergic reactions.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and families on post-surgery recovery, wound care, and pain management.
- Collaboration: Work with anesthesiologists, ENT surgeons, and team members to ensure a safe, efficient recovery process
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 1-3 years of PACU, ICU, or Operating Room experience.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Strong critical thinking and ability to work in high-pressure environments.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with patients and surgical teams.
Pay: From $35.00 per hour
