Golden SVCS, LLC (GS) is seeking to fill 1 or more vacancies for the position of Security Police Officer I. The Security Police Officer (SPOI) is responsible for safeguarding U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) assets and directly protecting the interests of the Oak Ridge Federal Building Complex in accordance with the Department’s security regulations and requirements.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide protection for DOE facilities and property which may be susceptible to theft, fire, sabotage, or unauthorized control, responding as directed in the event of incidents affecting security integrity of facilities;
- Be alert for potential security, property or safety concerns and initiate appropriate action;
- Prevent, report, and act on all violations of security and safety rules and regulations;
- Patrol and protect facilities by foot or vehicle to detect or prevent illegal/unauthorized activities;
- Provide security protection for all government property, classified material and personnel within assigned areas of responsibility to preclude unauthorized access, diversion, theft, or intentional destruction;
- Report and respond to unusual or emergency situations, using the appropriate degree of force or weaponry as the situation dictates;
- Control personnel access in and out of controlled or security areas;
- Perform security duties as directed, to include responding to situations that may require detainment and the use of physical or deadly force;
- Perform security tasks to include but not limited to the enforcement of all applicable rules and regulations concerning: trespass or demonstrations, exclusion of prohibited articles and/or contraband, special material, devices and components;
- Provide escorts for personnel as required;
- Respond to protective alarms or other unusual/suspicious activities;
- Maintain a working knowledge of all security orders (written and oral) pertaining to the assigned duties as well as an in-depth knowledge of applicable federal laws and DOE orders/directives;
- Maintain proficiency with all assigned weapons by achieving the required qualifying scores in the designated courses of fire and the level of fitness required to safely pass annual qualification tests and carry out duties;
- Remain proficient in the care, maintenance, operation, disassembly, and assembly of all duty weapons as applicable;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Requirements: GED or High School Diploma (or higher); Must be 21 years [Tennessee Code Annotated, Chapter 17, Part 13] and meet standards of the Gun Control Act; Must have United States Citizenship; New hires must run 1 mile in 8 minutes and 30 seconds or less upon hiring (1/2 mile in 4 min. 40 sec. thereafter); New hires must also run the 40- yard dash in 8.0 seconds, or less (8.5 seconds or less annually thereafter); Must pass medical exam; Must pass background check; Must pass respirator fit test; Must successfully complete drug screening requirements & comply with applicable programs.
Desired: An Associate’s Degree or higher or at least 6 months of work experience in military, law enforcement (post certified), nuclear security, correctional facility, or participation in a recognized physical fitness program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skill & ability to acquire & maintain knowledge of applicable federal laws/regulations and restrictions relative to operation;
Skill & ability to acquire & maintain knowledge of assigned weapons and equipment;
Skill & ability to meet medical, physical fitness, and firearms standards contained in 10 CFR 1046;
Skill & ability to meet the training requirements as defined in the DOE Policy 473.3A;
Skill & ability to retain in-depth knowledge of applicable federal laws and DOE/GS orders/policies/standard procedures;
Ability to follow the company safety rules and GS policies;
Ability to successfully complete drug screening requirements;
Ability to maintain conduct becoming an officer as stated in Code of Federal Regulations 10 CFR 710.6;
Ability to maintain integrity and trustworthiness which is mandatory in this security environment;
Ability to obtain & maintain a valid Driver’s License;
Ability to possess a firearm and ammunition (record clear of any Domestic Violence convictions according to Public Law 104-208);
Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime;
Ability to maintain excellent attendance record;
Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation;
Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility requirements for access authorization and classified information;

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Able to perform internal security guard services at any potential internal security posting for 8-hour shifts and 12 hour rotating shifts (includes days, nights, and weekends) while donning all required personal protective gear. SPO’s are subject to working overtime as required.
Due to the nature of the position and requirements of the job working a flexible hour schedule is not possible for this position.
Telecommuting and remote work locations are not available for this position as related to the ADAAA. Due to the nature of the position, physical presence is required as an essential function of the job.
