Golden State Peterbilt located at 1450 S. Union Ave Bakersfield, CA. who is a subsidiary of E.M. Tharp Inc. is currently seeking Journey Level 3-4 Technicians to join our growing team! This position is an essential position to the Service Department who performs advanced diagnostics and repairs on heavy-medium duty diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems. Troubleshoot complex issues using diagnostic software, technical manuals, and experience. Conduct thorough inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure fleet vehicles meet safety and performance standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and safety inspections.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.
- Conduct inspections to identify issues and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot problems efficiently.
- Keep accurate records of repairs and maintenance activities.
To effectively perform the duties of a Service Technician Level 3-4 individuals must be able to demonstrate several competencies that are essential to the position, which include:
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with diesel engines and their components.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to follow technical manuals and schematics.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Strong communication skills for interacting with management, colleagues and other departments.
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Completion of a vocational or trade school program in diesel technology is not required but is a plus.
- Relevant certifications, such as those offered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), can enhance your credentials.
- On-the-job training provided by employers to familiarize you with specific equipment and procedures.
- Ongoing training to stay current with advancements in diesel technology, emissions standards, and safety regulations.

Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license. Class A preferred.
- Not required but preferred – completion of a diesel technology program or apprenticeship
- Certification as a journeyman diesel technician or similar credential demonstrating mastery of the trade.
- Ongoing training to stay current with advancements in diesel technology, emissions standards, and safety regulations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is normally loud. Proper safety gear must be always worn. A standard 40-hour work week applies.
