What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Assistant, Housecalls position at Golden Paws Veterinary Service and Housecalls?
Make a Difference. Love Your Team. Leave the Chaos Behind.
Do you love veterinary medicine but wish you had more time to actually enjoy it?
If you're looking for a career where you can build meaningful relationships with pets and their families, work alongside an amazing team, and provide exceptional patient care without feeling like you're sprinting through every appointment—we'd love to meet you.
Our growing mobile veterinary practice is looking for a compassionate, dependable Veterinary Assistant to join our team. We provide high-quality veterinary care in the comfort of our clients' homes, creating a calmer, more personalized experience for pets while giving our team the time and support to do their best work.
No packed waiting room. No constant ringing phones. No wondering which exam room the doctor disappeared into. Just great medicine, great teamwork, and lots of happy tails.
Why You'll Love Mobile Practice
Work-Life Balance That Actually Exists
Predictable daytime hours, optional weekends, and reasonable daily schedules mean you'll have time to focus on your patients—and still have a life outside of work.
Be Part of Quality Patient Care
Veterinary assistants are the heart of every successful appointment. You'll help patients feel comfortable, support the veterinarian and technician, educate clients, and keep appointments running smoothly from start to finish.
Every Day Is Different
One appointment may be helping a brand-new puppy through its first wellness visit. The next might be caring for a senior cat who's much happier staying home than taking a car ride. Every driveway has a different story, and that's part of what makes this job so rewarding.
What You'll Do
- Assist the veterinarian and veterinary technician during in-home appointments
- Safely restrain patients using low-stress handling techniques
- Prepare equipment and supplies for appointments and procedures
- Collect patient histories and assist with documentation
- Help collect laboratory samples and run in-house diagnostics
- Assist with surgery and dental procedure preparation
- Clean, organize, and restock the mobile unit
- Provide compassionate client education and support
- Be an extra set of hands whenever they're needed—which is often!
- Accept that at least one patient each day will decide you are their new best friend (or their newest nemesis).
We're Looking For
- Previous veterinary assistant experience preferred
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Excellent communication and client service skills
- Someone who enjoys working independently while being part of a close-knit, supportive team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lift, bend, and safely handle patients of various sizes
- A good sense of humor—because sometimes you'll be kneeling on a living room floor giving treats to convince a Beagle that nail trims are, in fact, not a personal attack.
